Been a lurker for sometime now. I’m in my mid twenties and have had psoriasis since I was 12. I’ve gone through the motions with various topicals, with only Enstilar and the protopic ointments being of any use. I only got my hands on these earlier last year, but they’re only help marginally with comfort, but the clearance hasn’t really happened.
Last year I also tried acitretin but this didn’t give much clearance either, so now have been suggested to try Skilarence. The private script I’ve been given however seems to cost around £1300 for a 14 weeks at one of the well known high street pharmacists which is pretty darn steep. Read the rest here Carla81writes .

mjayb asks about exercise Hi there,
I'm new here - hello!
Wondering if anyone can help.
After I go for a run, +7miles, the psoriasis spots on my back on stomach flare up.
I'm assuming it is from the irritation from the clothing mixed with the sweat from exercising. Does anybody know that the best clothing is for running long distance as a Psoriasis suffer?
Thank you!

Click Here MarcusScone started Skilarence a few days ago Hi all,
I hope all is well. After the initial saga of trying to source Skilarence privately, I found that SuperDrug stocks it at roughly half the price of anywhere else, so decided to give it a shot in the first instance.
So far so good, with limited side effects, although last night I did get a hot flush in the middle of the night which woke me up as it was uncomfortable against my pillow. I was wondering if anybody had any tips for either heading these off or managing them once they hit? It didn’t last more than about 20 minutes but It wasn’t a pleasant experience!

I've been diagnosed with Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis for just under three years.
Started off innocently, and took over a year to actually grab my attention.
Mid 2017 until Mid 2018 - All the first off meds such as Methotrexate etc...
Nothing with any results.
Beginning of 2018 the Plaque growth jumped exponentially.
No decent dermatologists in my country.
Had to find out about biologics on my own.
Went to the US to see a dermatologist. Prices we're absurdly high.
Was able to find Cosentyx marketed as Scapho in India.
Still extremely expensive but much cheaper than Cosentyx from the US.

Almost cured naturally after 21 years It took 21 years to get almost rid of my scalp psoriasis. Very slight traces remain, but overall looks very good, and I do not see it coming back. I have now seen 15 days of complete clearance! This is incredible news for me personally. So I want to share what I actually did to get rid of this condition. Please note I am free and open to questions and I will try my best to answer as many people as possible.

ZUDAIFU CREAM STOP USING IMMEDIATELY I've left this in the newsletter in case anyone missed it last month
The MHRA has been working to prevent the further sale of Zudaifu cream and advises anyone who has bought it online to stop using it immediately.
Zudaifu cream is not a licensed medicine and has been marketed in the UK as a “natural” Chinese herbal remedy for the treatment of a range of skin conditions, most commonly eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.
Our analysis of the product found the presence of the steroid clobetasol propionate. This is the active ingredient in Prescription-Only medicines used for the treatment of a range skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Despite increasing awareness of the disease, rates of undiagnosed psoriatic arthritis (PsA) are high in patients with psoriasis (PsO). The validated Psoriasis Epidemiology Screening Tool (PEST) is a 5‐item questionnaire developed to help identify PsA at an early stage.

While some information on psoriasis impact on pregnancy is available, very little is known on the preoccupations of women afflicted by the disease or on the dermatologists’ (D) positioning as to psoriasis and pregnancy. The “Objectifs Peau” project demonstrated a 4.7% prevalence of psoriasis in women aged 18‐45 years in France.
This project sought to further address these issues in view of a targeted action plan.
A questionnaire was made available to 361 D of different types.

Click Here to read the study Health literacy could help with psoriasis
This study looked at the Health literacy (HL) strengths and weaknesses in psoriasis patients.
The background of the study
Health literacy (HL), the ability to seek, understand and utilize health information, is important for good health. Suboptimal HL has been associated with poorer health outcomes in other chronic conditions, although this has not previously been studied in patients with psoriasis.
The aim of this study was to investigate the HL strengths and weaknesses of a cohort of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis. Another aim was to examine possible associations between patients’ quality of life, their demographic, clinical and self‐management characteristics and dimensions of HL.
Click Here to read the study Family history of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis has impacts :
Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has a genetic background. Approximately 40% of patients have a family history of psoriasis or PsA, which may affect disease features. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of family history of psoriasis and PsA on disease phenotypes.
The data from 1393 patients recruited in the longitudinal, multicenter Psoriatic Arthritis‐International Database (PsArt‐ID) were analyzed. The effects of family history of psoriasis and/or PsA on characteristics of psoriasis and PsA were investigated using logistic regression.

I was talking with Mrs Fred about donating blood and the fact that we have never been able to donate blood in France. As far as I know we still can not donate because we lived in the UK between 1980 to 1996 and they wanted to remove the risk of Mad Cow. (No I'm not getting into the politics of it all)
I also said that I doubt I would be able to donate blood anyway as I have been on Bio's for around 12 years, I also don't think anyone taking Oral or Bio treatments for psoriasis can donate. But it got me thinking and I don't know if any of our members do donate blood.
Thoughts ?

Quote:
Fumaric acid esters (FAEs) are used to treat psoriasis and are known to cause lymphopenia in roughly 60% of the patients. Much remains to be elucidated about the biological effects of FAEs on lymphocytes.
The Objective is
To evaluate the influence of long‐term FAE (Fumaderm®) treatment on peripheral blood CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, CD19+ B cells and CD56+ natural killer (NK) cells in psoriasis.

Blind Blues: Whilst listening to some old blues the other evening, I got thinking about the amount of Black artists with the name "Blind" there were out there. Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie McTell, Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Boy Fuller, and Blind Blake to name a few. On digging around a bit I was surprised to find there were a lot more blind blues artists than I first thought and a lot didn't use the name blind.
So why were there so many Black blind blues artists ? When you think about the answer is obvious. They came from very hard working and poorly paid families, and as they were unable to work in the fields they came up with the idea of entertaining the workers with their music in juke joints and barrelhouses.
But why did so many of them use "Blind" in their names? My guess is they didn't and it was the White record producers that decided to give them the name Blind something as it would get the sympathy vote and help sell records. So not only did the White Man make the Black people do hard manual work for next to no money, they even used them to make money from their talent.
You could argue that the White Man did help get the Black artists out there and we are lucky that they did. They probably also helped some of them make a decent bit of money, but I can't help wondering if a lot of them did indeed get what they were worth.

Recipe Spot
Lentil soup ...with variations
Well this recipe very nearly didn't make it. I upgraded my desktop just before Christmas with one of those whizzy solid state drives and very nice it was too. Cloned my HDD no problems but it was just dangling in the case because the only spare power outlet was by my DVD drive. So trawled ‘tinternet for a new power lead. IT came, looked ok, plugged it all in, fitted it into its slot all nice and comfy, switched the PC on and all the magiic smoke escaped from my whizzy new drive. AAAARRRRGGGH!!!
Anyways you are here for a recipe not my IT issues so here is this months effort;
Its a soup, quick, dead easy and nice and tasty.
Start by hacking up a stick of celery, a carrot and a medium onion into small cubes followed by a three or four rashers of smoked back bacon. Sorry you guys the other side of the pond you really must learn how to make decent bacon. I think the closest for you would be the Canadian style stuff or some decent lardons. That stuff that's really fatty and as thick flies wing you call bacon just wont do it. Oh and don’t use that cheap crappy stuff that sheds twice its body weight in water and you end up boiling the bacon in a bath of white frothy scum instead of frying it.
So in a decent sized saucepan, splosh in a good glug of a good oil, olive or rape is a good choice. Throw in all the veggies and the bacon and cook over a medium low heat until the onions are translucent and the carrots and celery are tender.
In the meanwhilst have a kettle full of water coming to the boil. When the stuff in the pan (the Italians have a name for this mix, but I have forgotten it) is done, half fill your pan with water and empty a pack of Red Lentils (normally 500kg) add a cup full of milk and top up the pan with water. Bring to nearly on the boil and simmer for about 40 minutes to an hour you will know when its ready, the lentils will have broken down. I don’t think you can overcook it, but be careful – it has a propensity to stick to the bottom of the pan and can burn so keep stirring it occasionally. Season with salt and ground white pepper. I tend to like my soups thick so this will be around the thickness of a good custard, but not as thick as a Dahl.
So for the variations;
Add a heap of Paprika to give it an unctuous smoky flavour when you put the water and lentils in.
If you like it on the spicy side a liberal sprinkling of Cayenne pepper does the job nicely.
And one I learned this week, throw a tin of chopped tomatoes in when you add the lentils. I have a feeling that this might just benefit from a bulb of freshly roasted garlic squeezing into it during the cooking.
Serve piping hot with a good crusty bread
Enjoy
Johnb

Kristie Wright returned to tell us about some skin camouflage Hi All
Dermablend is ok, it is formulated for people with skin conditions so doesn't aggravate. However, they have limited tones and even their lightest makes me look like I have really badly applied a fake tan. There is a company called Keromask who have a range of tones and mixers that you can buy to get a perfect tone match with your skin, it applies well, lasts a long time and gives great coverage. I wore it at a friends wedding in the summer as I didn't want to have to cover my arms and it camoflaged my psoriasis patches really well
