New Introductions.
Please look at these introductions and come and welcome the new members that have taken the trouble to write an introduction. KwakerAndy says ........ Hello to everyone in my boat. We all know the great fun we have with this horrible affliction so I'm here to share my experiences and treatments (and to learn anything new I can along the way)
I have had pretty much all available topical forms of creams and lotions, some success but not really any more than 2/10 - Moved on to light treatment twice, cleared me first time for around four months and second time for around six weeks. Read more here Claudia says hello from Germany
I'm Claudia and I have my Psoriasis since I was 3 years old – and this is 46 years ago. Most time my psoriasis was on hands and soles – Psoriasis vulgaris palmoplantaris.
The most effective way for relief was the Dead Sea – and now it's Cosentyx. I tried almost all medications. If you have german-related questions – feel free to ask (and other questions too)

Hi everyone, I've had psoriatic arthritis for about 6 years - arthritis came with a vengeance about 4 years ago. Luckily after a pretty bad year the arthritis calmed down and I have had only light twinges since. Have also bronchiectasis so medication for this and psoriasis is a double whammy on the immune system. Should have started Acitretin in November last year but decided at the last moment not to as I was frightened of the side effects. Symptoms are much worse now and I have tried almost every cream known with no great success. Only thing which gave the most respite was when I was on a course of steroids for my lungs and that cleared it wonderfully. Only thing was that I nearly always had a bad flair up after. I've enjoyed reading through the posts, got some great info on Acitretin. Second tablet tonight - fingers crossed side effects aren't too bad

This study looks at Guselkumab (Tremfya) for Psoriatic Arthritis
This is the result of a phase 2 study
Guselkumab, a human monoclonal antibody that binds to the p19 subunit of interleukin 23, has been approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis. Psoriatic arthritis is a common comorbidity of psoriasis with an umet need for novel treatments. We assessed the efficacy and safety of guselkumab in patients with active psoriatic arthritis.
Read the rest of the study here NICE ready to approve Tremfya for psoriasis .
Guselkumab is recommended as an option for treating plaque psoriasis in adults, only if: the disease is severe, as defined by a total Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) of 10 or more and a Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) of more than 10 and the disease has not responded to other systemic therapies, including ciclosporin, methotrexate and PUVA (psoralen and long-wave ultraviolet A radiation), or these options are contraindicated or not tolerated and the company provides the drug with the discount agreed in the patient access scheme.
......... Read more about it Here No reason to exclude over 65s from biological treatments
The number elderly patients with psoriasis is steadily increasing in the Western world, nevertheless they are frequently excluded from biologic clinical trials and described as a high‐risk group for adverse events. Thus, there is lack of information concerning safety and effectiveness of available treatments for psoriasis in the elderly, particularly about new biologic systemic drugs.
Our aim is to describe our experience with all biological therapies currently used in the elderly (> 65 years) psoriatic patients.
A retrospective multicentric review of clinical records of all psoriatic patient aged 65 years or older actually receiving biological drugs (etanercept, adalimumab, infliximab, golimumab, certolizumab pegol, ustekinumab or secukinumab) was undertaken.......... Read the full thread here FDA declines the approval of Doubrii (halobetasol propionate and tazarotene IDP-118 lotion) for psoriasis .
Ortho Dermatologics, a division of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc, today announced that it has received a Complete Response Letter (CRL) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the company's New Drug Application (NDA) for DUOBRII (halobetasol propionate and tazarotene) (IDP-118) lotion in the treatment of plaque psoriasis.
"The CRL did not specify any deficiencies related to the clinical efficacy or safety of DUOBRII and no issues with CMC processes. The CRL only noted questions regarding pharmacokinetic data," said Joseph C. Papa, chairman and CEO, Valeant. "We are working to resolve this matter expeditiously and have already requested a meeting with the FDA. We hope to bring forward this important new treatment option for those who suffer from plaque psoriasis as quickly as possible."

Fred's Music Column.
Talking to myself: It's a bit strange doing this column each month as I never know if anyone is reading it. Each month I sit here with a large glass of Merlot and think about what I should put in my next column. It's not like a pirate radio station where I'm playing tracks to my listeners. You can't hear me talking, and for all you know I may have a voice like I have been snorting Helium. It's also not like your are reading my column in the NME where I know what my audience wants from me and I write it to suit ..................... Oh I have just realised some of you won't know about the NME or Pirate Radio will you ?
So here I am loaded up with a large glass of Merlot and my Pen In Hand Keyboard and Laptop wondering what will interest you my 10000s of readers 1 reader (Thank's Mum) Anyway on with the show, shall we have another quiz ?

Anyone else noticed the resurgence of vinyl ?
I may be wrong but I'm seeing more and more bands now offering their new releases in vinyl as well as downloads. Maybe it's just me and the artists I listen too but there are definitely more artist selling vinyl than there has been for a long time.
So for those of you wondering what this new vinyl stuff is about, here comes a little history lesson ...................... No don't worry I'm not going to do that, it's all out there if you want to do your own research. But I am going to say how important vinyl was to my life as I'm sure it was to many people.
Forget the internet for a moment and I will tell you a little story that most people my age will be able to tell you. On a Friday afternoon you would get your wages in a little brwon envelope for the work that you had done for that week, some you would give to your Mum to help out with the family housekeeping, some you would put aside for that dream of buying something of your own in the future, some you would put in your pocket for the weekend. But you would also keep a little bit to take down to your local music shop so you could buy a record.
You got to hear about these records from those Pirate Radio Stations or the NME as I spoke about earlier. A song would just touch you one day and you had to have your own copy, so armed with your little bit of cash you would go and purchase your vinyl. From that day onwards that little piece of vinyl would be a part of your life.
Unfortunately we didn't all treat our pieces of vinyl very well, we would throw them around on the bedroom floor, we would tuck them in our jackets, we would treat them rough but they would always play us that piece of music just when we needed it. Our own piece of vinyl would end up becoming unique to us as it would take on a part of our life with little scratches and marks.
Today when I listen to an old track on the internet that I had purchased with my hard earned cash many years ago I sometimes get disappointed that it no longer has that little skip or chichick. That track although a very good quality on the internet is no longer My Track. My vinyl track had my personal life etched into it, we were friends and it was mine ............ all mine. Yes you could own the same piece of vinyl as me that you had purchased, but mine sounded better than yours, and yours sounded better to you as it was you.
So next time you are thinking of buying a new album and you see it's available in vinyl, buy it and play it if you can. Don't worry too much if it gets a little mark or a chichick sound it will bring back so many memories to you later on in life.
Random Track: Ian Hunter - The Great escape.
See you next month.
JohnB's Recipe Spot
Cod with Pesto and Cheese topping
Right now then where was I? Oh yeah Fish.
Now then if you are of Italian decent you may wish to avert your eyes from the blasphemy of this recipe and yes I am aware there are several dark corners of hell waiting for me for suggesting this concoction.
Oh dear where is this going? What on earth could you do to fish to rankle an Italian?
That’s easy add cheese – bear with me though this does work very well.
Cod with Pesto and Cheese Topping
So to start slice up an onion and fry off until just tender for about 5 minutes. While that’s burning / cooking, finely slice around 170g of mushrooms (optional) and dice a decent sized courgette into 6mm cubes. Throw them into the cooked onions and cook for another 5 minutes or so. Slop in a tin of chopped tomatoes and a healthy tablespoon of Pesto. Cook on a medium heat for 5 or 6 minutes so the sauce thickens (No it doesn’t. Never has. Never will. Just spoon off the majority of the excess juice and throw it away) stirring occasionally to stop it singeing.
Now we normally do ours in the morning for use in the evening. As with most things its just that much better left to fester for a while and reheated. There is a bonus, a lot of the juice is reabsorbed into the veggies.
For the fish, any good white flaky fish will do. We use Cod because we can get some nice single portion sized chunks locally but Haddock Pollack or even Hake would do nicely, but Basa? I’m sorry that stuff should be banned under the Geneva Convention its bloody awful stuff.
Take your fish and stick it in an oven ready dish. Either one decent sized one or two smaller ones. Smother with the veggies you have previously cooked. Drain off any surplus liquid before though, you don’t want your fish doing the breast stroke around the dish while its cooking! Grate up some nice strong Cheddar and liberally sprinkle on top of the sauce. If you want a bit of crunch in the cheesy topping you can add some breadcrumbs.
We generally have this as a mid week evening meal as it is fairly quick and simple. It doesn't really need an accompaniment but you could plump for a green salad if you feel it is necessary to pad it out more. As we have it on a school night and I don't normally drink on a school night I’m not too sure what to serve it with. If I had to stick my neck out I would probably go for a nicely chilled Pinot Grigio.
Enjoy!
JohnB

Affiliate scams
Fred has often mentioned that affiliates are not allowed here, but thought it worth mentioning again and explain a little bit more about why they are banned here and why you should not fall for them.
I won't be using a genuine one in this example as I hate the damn things.
What is an affiliate: An affiliate is a person that is part of an Affiliate Program (aka Association, Merchant, Etc)
What is an Affiliate Program: An affiliate program is where the affiliate becomes a member to promote a webiste, product, etc.
How does it work: The affiliate will be given an unique Code, Number, or ID. He/She uses their code and adds it to a piece of text in a Blog Post, News Article, Etc. When a reader follows a link from the affiliates text, the affiliate gets a payment.
There are basically two types: #1 You get paid if someone buys something. #2 You get paid just for getting someone to click a link.
Not all affiliates are scammers and in some ways you could be rewarding someone for giving you some good information, but they are used mostly by scammers and spammers.
So read on and I will show you how it works with our fake affiliate program.Click Here
