Hi there,
I'm new here - hello!
Wondering if anyone can help.
After I go for a run, +7miles, the psoriasis spots on my back on stomach flare up.
I'm assuming it is from the irritation from the clothing mixed with the sweat from exercising. Does anybody know that the best clothing is for running long distance as a Psoriasis suffer?
Thank you!
mjb

Hello Mjayb,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub.

I really would not know the answer to your question. Let’s hope that there will be some on the forum who have similar experiences.

For my own interpretation I could imagine that because of the running the Psoriasis sports become more filled with blood because of the expansion of your veins.
I hardly can understand why your clothing could be the cause.
What kind of clothing are you wearing when exercising?

Cheers,
Caroline.

Hi MjayB,

I find that wearing thin running tops and trousers really helps, sweat evaporates from those really quickly so there's less likely to be irritation.

Also tighter fitting tends to be better as the skin and clothes are closer together and the sweat doesn't pool as much as wearing baggier cotton tops.

I used to run x-country (half marathons) with really severe P and wearing clothing like this never caused me a problem.

Hi mjb and welcome  Welcome  to the club I hope you can find an answer, I'm afraid my days of running are over apart from running to catch a bus .
I wouldn't think it's the clothes but could be wrong if you are wearing tight fitting Lycra type clothing and it's not rubbing it shouldn't be a problem But I really don't know but wanted to say hi anyway
But as Caroline says it could be the blood pumping hard through your body,
and I see Krissie has answered Thumb
So good luck Thumb

Hi mjayb,

I would suggest a moisture wicking fabric. It might be a cooler option as well. I am interested to hear if something works for you.

Cheers

Hello,
Thanks to all for your responses!
It's amazing having a community that can provide quick and valuable feedback, and even it's just to say hi ?
I'm going to give the light weight moisture wicking fabric a go.
Will check back in with my success!
Thanks again
Cheers for now

Hi Mjayb and a warm welcome to our club  Wave . Sorry I can't be any help with your running. My running problems can be sorted with a handkerchief  Whistle my nose is all that runs these days. But what I would suggest is avoid anything containing Elastian/Lycra as this is a known irritant as I can wholeheartedly attest to with my socks. I cannot wear socks with more than 2% elastain, I always end up with a real angry band where the cuff sits.
Let us know how you go Thumb

I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu a lot, and when i was really flared up last year, i wore some compression pants that were 100% lycra under my kimonos.

They really took the irritation away from the pants constantly rubbing against my legs. taking the compression pants off was a bit of an issue tho, as when they were full of sweat, the skin underneath was basically raw.

Hi and welcome to the club.
Do you use any moisturiser at all as I see that you are in South Africa and I would think that humidity may be a contributory factor . I gave up running many years ago but what sort of regime are you on.
