I almost put this in the off topic section, but after thinking it over I believe it belongs here.  Feel free to move it Fred if you disagree.

I have noticed that my hair is thinning out. I have thin hair but a lot of it, or well normally that it. This past year or so I've noticed that there is more hair in my brush than there used to be. Now it is partly due to age I'm sure, although thinning hair does not run in my family. I also wear a CPAP mask so I'm sure having it rub across my head at night doesn't help. But I don't move around much when sleeping. I even wake up to change positions anymore (another wonderful thing I think I can thank old age for) so....

I have scalp psoriasis and tend to scratch WAY more than I should.  NoNo  I'm wondering if anyone else who has or has had scalp psoriasis noticed any hair thinning and also what they (if anything) to help.

I figured it belongs here as anyone searching for information for thinning hair due to scalp psoriasis might find information here if anyone has any to share. I mean you wouldn't have had to have scalp psoriasis, just advice on what to do about thinning hair. I've thought of supplements, but not sure they're worth the $$.

I’ve had scalp psoriasis in the past, around the hairline above my neck. I think it can mess about with how the hair grows but as it was underneath rather than in a more visible place I didn’t notice hair thinning.
Hair can also thin in response to some medications.
I think my hair comes out more readily in recent times, lots of strands after I wash it - as you say it could be age.

I found a particular shampoo really useful with the scalp psoriasis - it was oilatum shampoo. (Is it ok to name it?) I don’t know what it had in it but it really helped clear mine up.

I think it's fine to name, we name lots of creams and treatments, just can't promote it for sale or link to a website, etc.

Most of my psoriasis is the lower part of my head. Most of the scratching is in that area too. I don't have any bald spots or anything, just losing a lot of hair lately and my hair is thinner.

I can find Oilatum cream but not shampoo. I'll keep looking.

Yes it's fine here Kat, but I have changed the subject from "Hair thinning" to "Hair thinning and scalp psoriasis" as it will help with search results. If you prefer a different subject let me know.

I'll also move it to Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics as it doesn't mention a prescribed treatment.

@TL Yes as Kat it's fine to mention a brand.

Re your question, I'm probably not much help but I had bad scalp psoriasis in the 80s and I had long hair. I remember it getting a lot thinner but I did pick at it a lot and I'm sure the tar shampoo made it thinner.

Would it be worth asking a hairdresser ?

The subject rename is fine Fred. Smile

Hmm, possibly if only I had a hairdresser. Tongue I just get my daughter to give me a trim and I quit coloring my hair years ago due to the psoriasis as I felt chemicals were not going to help that out any. But I can get my daughter to ask her hairdresser when she goes or maybe go with her next time.

We don't have one, I cut Mrs Fred's and she cuts mine. They will probably want to sell you something, but they do have a reputation to keep so I would have thought they may have a suggestion.

It's possible. But yeah, probably more apt to try to sell me something in their shop. It's usually how it goes.

Big Grin

My dad used to quip, "I'm not bald; I'm just taller than my hair."

On the topic of scalp psoriasis, the chairs we sit in most often (for me, this office chair), need more frequent cleaning.  The flakes!   eek
