Does anyone know of a treatment that helps with scalp psoriasis? I'm currently using capasal (I think it's called) and its has not helped in the slightest, it just smells bad. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks

Claire

Hi Claire .. Have you tried Clobex shampoo it's a high potent topical corticosteroid that you put on your scalp and leave 15 minutes before washing out.
You would need to get a prescription from your doctor as it's not an over the counter medicine

I use Dermovat Scalp and it helps. I usually have to put it on my scalp psoriasis only one or two times. It's a strong corticosteroid.

I've tried a few shampoos that were for psoriasis, T-Gel and another I can't think of right now. Neither of them worked for me. I thought about trying Pine Tar Shampoo as I've heard it mentioned here on the forums but haven't purchased any yet. The doctor gave me a scalp oil that helped, but only temporarily (as in right after using, but less than an hour later back to itching) and it was messy plus had cortisone in it which is why it helped with the itch. I've used a bit of coconut oil which helps with the dryness, but find it is hard to rinse out of my hair so I try not to use it heavily. I do use a moisturizer on my scalp after shampooing just so I don't dry my scalp out more which helps it to not be even MORE itchy after shampooing. So, no I haven't really found anything that works totally to help with my scalp psoriasis, just a bit of short term relief.

Neutrogenia T/Sal, Neutragena T- gel, Tea tree shampoo,DHS Tar Shampoo, most with salicylic acid.
Dermarest medicated Shampoo.Available in the US OTC. There are many new products OTC available today than ever before, both in the US and across the pond. "Never use steroids on scalp".

Check online for shampoos OTC or RX here in the US & UK.

Also almond oil, coconut oil, cold pressed black seed pressed oil, test tree oil, olive, many oils work great to soften & eliminate flakes. Apply oil lightly on scalp for over night treatment. Wear a shower cap to protect pillow. Next morning wash hair with P. Shampoo rises out loosened scales.

Depending how severe the scalp P. is it will determine the treatments required.

There is also a Dermalight 80 UV Comb for scalp Psoriasis UVB UV Light Therapy Treatment-Medically Certified available for P. Good To help manage scalp P.

I use dermovate scalp application.

It has very strong steroids in it but it is good.

I use to use Polytar shampoo until some Euro ' richard head' worth banned it.
Something to do with the tar ingredients causing cancer so my derm doc says.

So, I use T-gel and it's as effective as a cat flap in an elephant house.

I now shave my head and try to get as much sunshine on it.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Shaving ur head grizzly is a good way to get sunshine on ur scalp. But I don't think many female Grizzlies would want to do that. Big Grin
Strong steroids can make the skin thin over time and lower the blood circulation to the hair folicals cause hair to fall out.
