Hello all,

Glad to be here, as I have valuable information on Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) and I hope to shed some light on this possibly, very benefIcial pharmaceutical.

I have researched PsA thoroughly since being recently diagnosed. And I have much information I would like to share with others that suffer as I do, with this severe inflammatory condition. But in doing a search on your site for LDN,
I see there's little info and it is dated. I would have believed by now, a thread
on LDN would have been stickied. And I'm a bit surprised this is not so.

Did you know that people with PsA are highly likely to develop other
autoimmune diseases?

Did you know LDN benefits many autoimmune disorders including cancer? And
that LDN is so safe, fertility specialists are using it for expecting
mothers? And that it is beneficial to both mother and baby?

I have documented all the studies. Doctors who have shown clinical benefits in their practice and would like to share this valuable information, to those like me, who were slammed with this crippling inflammatory condition.

I was hit hard by PsA this New Years Day (2016). In three days I went from being mobile and active to practically being crippled. Wasn't diagnosed till months later (April). Never been arthritic in my 58 years prior. Now I know why all the old timers move to Florida. The cold really makes this condition unbearable. Now that it is warmer up north here in NYC, things are much better. Been taking care of myself by eating healthy, taking supplemental nutrients, and recently started with LDN (June 7th). I cannot comment on what is helping me, as it could be all these things. The big test will be when it gets cold again. Right now my inflammation markers have dropped which was my immediate concern due to pre-existing conditions (COPD, Cancer recovery). Systemic inflammation is not something you want added with those conditions. This recent autoimmune disorder couldn't have come at a worse time. But as I said I'm improving, but can't be sure why. My Rheumatologist is on board with my decision to try LDN, as I am hesitant about taking any DMARD's. There are many reasons why I'm hesitant about the standard treatments, but I'll cover that another time.

For now, I would just like to say, I'm happy to be here, and welcome any questions about LDN or PsA. I came to help and maybe learn in the process. I try to learn something new everyday.

Hi and a big welcome to the club  Welcome  you will find a lot of information on lots of different treatments here, along with personal experiences of members. I hope you will enjoy your time here with us and keep a thread updated on your experience of LDN

One of the reasons we don't have a sticky thread about it I'm guessing is that it's not a mainline treatment

I suggest that starting a thread and updating it with your progress may be a way forward to enlighten us on how successful the treatment is, and may encourage others to go down the LDN route

Up till now I've only read  one report of it working from any of our members, so you could be the first to devote a thread to it   Thumb

Have a good look around the site the help facility is useful but you will have to put low dose naltrexone in to get results

This post is worth reading although the author hasn't been back to update, so sadly we don't know if it is still working
RE: Low Dose Naltrexone LDN and Howdy

Thanks for your informative post  Thumb

There is little information because not many members are using it or those that are do not keep their threads updated. Another reason is because it's not a prescribed treatment for psoriasis, so it's not relevant as such to Psoriasis Club and that is why there is not a sticky thread about it.

Like Jim said you are welcome to start a thread and keep it updated as long as don't go putting links up. Bill started one about DMF and keeps it updated, it may give you an idea of what can be done. Bill's pure dimethylfumarate thread

Yes if you look at Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics you will find many news articles and studies. It may take you a while to sift through them all, so the search facility may help.

Thank you for the kind welcome guys.

My main objective is to share my knowledge of LDN. In the hope it might help those with psoriasis and PsA. Both are autoimmune disorders and LDN is very beneficial in helping with most autoimmune conditions. I have read the terms here and will not post links. One or two questions though, if I may,..

Can you edit your posts? I make numerous errors with my cellphone and would like to know, I can correct them. And where would it be better to posts a dedicated thread on LDN featuring all the studies, news, and how it would be relevant in the treatment of psoriasis. Either in Prescribed Treatments or Topics & News?

I will update my own progress here, but I would like to leave the bulk of what I learned, how it might help, the safety, and possible effects, for all to see in an easy to read format that would get the most exposure. I feel strongly LDN has more to offer than people realize.

I would never suggest to anyone to forego their medication or treatment, nor would I suggest to anyone to switch to LDN. But as we all realize the standard treatments are not all that effective and safe in most cases, and become less effective over time, it's nice to know there are other safe choices.

LDN is not a cure, and it's effectiveness has not been studied thoroughly, and probably never will be. But it is extremely safe and has many benefits. Even if it is not to be found that effective in our pressing concerns with psoriasis or PsA.

You can't edit posts till you have made 5 posts. Then you get 5 minutes to make an edit, it's to stop spammers coming back at a later date. I can always make edits for you if you have gone past the edit time limit, just let me know.

I think as it's not a prescribed treatment for psoriasis it would be better in Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics

You are welcome to update this thread if you wish but it may not get many readers.

Or another alternative is once you have made 10 posts you can start threads in Members Journals.

Thanks Fred. Typing with my thumbs on an Android is convenient but makes me look like I don't know gramma or english composition. I'll most likely will take you up on your offer. Thanks.

Do love the format of this forum. Sorta old school. Don't know why websites keep changing things for the worst, making them impossible to navigate and providing less info per page. They just can't leave well enough alone. Mobile friendly sites are the worst. Sorry for the rant, just happy you have a nice old school format here. Please don't change things.

I think I'll take your suggestion on posting in Topics & News. Thanks again.

But just so you know LDN is a prescription medication. And although not many Rheumatologist are familiar with it, this is your best option to get it prescribed, by bringing it to their attention, or finding another Rheumatologist familiar with it. LDN has shown benefits with Fibromyalgia in studies, so some of these specialist must know about it.

I'm glad you like the format of the site, as you say easy to navigate. Few rules but the rules we do have are for the good of the club. It's not massive and everyone is treated as an individual, there is never any spam, or advertising, requests to donate  or external links. Which makes the site a safe environment for us all and unique as a psoriasis forum
Fred who funds the site is very accommodating and will make edits for you ( which is important if you are writing a serious post)
but if you look at the off topic section you will notice as its club members only the odd typo gets left as many of us use portable devices and hit wrong keys ...

I look forward to reading your experience of LDN as time goes on and agree that the best place to post will be in the psoriasis topics and news....it will then be visible to members and guests so will be seen

I'm due to see my rheumatologist later this month and I will read with interest what you write and see if it can be taken without interfering with the drug I take ...as my rheumatologist wanted me back on methotrexate ...I will throw LDN into the mix for her. Although in the uk where I am if it's not in the manual you won't get it  Confused

Sorry what I meant about not a prescribed treatment, was that it's not prescribed for psoriasis as far as I know. So I thought it would be best not to put it in the prescribed boards so as not to confuse our readers.

Don't worry about spelling or grammar, no one will pull you up about it. I'm rubbish at it myself and Jim and Dave often push the wrong button, or use predictive text. Then we have Caroline she sometimes writes in a mixture of UK and USA English, and me I sometimes throw in a bit of Franglais. You will soon find we have a good mix and no one cares how you talk or what you look like.

Good to know you like the format of the forum we like to keep it simple.  Wink

Thanks Jim.

No worries if your Doc can't recommend. There are other avenues in which to obtain it. That's of course if it's safe to take with your other meds. From what I researched, the only interactions with LDN are with opioids and alcohol. It is quite a safe drug due to it's low dose. But also not sure how effective it would be with the DMARD's. They both work in a totally opposite way. DMARD'S suppress, while LDN repairs, regulates and boost the immune system function. So they seem to be counterproductive to use at the same time. That's only my take on it. But it is a fact that's how they work.

It's thought in general, that autoimmunity is due to an overactive immune system. But the truth is,... autoimmunity is a direct result of a weakened immune state. Studies have shown this. So to me, suppressing it further makes no sense.  It might curb the symptoms temporarily but as shown by you and the members here, DMARD's are not that all effective long term. And need to be changed, due to being less effective. Mostly likely due to antibodies being created.

I have learned more on health in the last 3 years than I ever did in school. Infact, before 3 years ago, I never took as much as a vitamin C tablet, or been to a doctor in 30 years. But since the colon cancer, COPD, and now this condition (PsA) that I need like a hole in the head, I have been researching 24/7 the last 1,000 days on how to improve my health by any means possible. And by that I mean, any medical treatment, plus alternative or natural effective remedies. There is a bunch of false information out on the internet and it isn't easy to sift through it all. But if you know how to research effectively, you can get to the truth, get to the facts that might help you. Sort of need a lawyer's mentality. Find evidence that can't be refuted, that will stand on it's own merit and repell cross examination.

More to come, but now it's time to throw a shrimp on the barbie. Not a good idea to barbecue, but hey, I need to break the rules once in a while.

Hi,

They are talking about me, so I will introduce myself and I will wish you a welcome to the club.  Smile
Interesting medication this LDN. I am really interested in the backgrounds of the use of it. The research and the outcomes of that research.

Have a good time over here, and if you see my collegue walking in NYC, then give him my regards.  Tongue

Cheers,
Caroline
