Fumaderm and hormone injections

Hi I have suffered with P for over 40 years and have been through most of the available treatments.
Just over a year ago I took myself off methotrexate as I hated the unwell feeling I had the day after taking them. Although they did a great job of keeping me clear for over 2 years. I was getting to dread Monday when I had to take them.
I was started on Fumaderm initial which was then upped to Fumaderm which although slow to clear I would say within 2 months I was clear taking 6 tabs a day
On my last visit I was cut down to 4 a day and so far so good.
My problem is I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer ( not bad) and am having Hormone tablets as part of the treatment Cyproterone 100mg and a three monthly injection of Prostap.
Has anyone had any experience of this combination as I asked the question of my GP who thought I should stop the fumaderm. I told my dermatology department this and they said it would be a good idea to stop taking them, for no other reason than I had brought the subject up.
They have not given any reason or offered alternative therapy.
Sorry about the rant but had to do it, Anyone out there with any advice.
If I get any from my hospital I will post the answer as it may help others

I can't help you on that myself, but there are other members using Fumaderm so hopefully they will spot this thread and have some answers. But please do keep it updated if you do get any more info.

Welcome to psoriasisclub.

I think is it strange that your GP and dermo just say you should stop your medication without any explanation.
If they would do some minor research, you could do that also yourself in the posts of psoriasisclub or on Internet, then they would see that there is no reason to stop Fumaderm, unless........ Your lymphosites would go to low. Dimethylfumarates do not interfere with your hormone system, only with your metabolic system. The only risk is a combination of too low lymphosites together with some other klinical elements in your blood.
And as you state, Fumaderm works good against psoriasis.
I would not have any faith in doctors that seem to be so inknowledgable. Basically it means that they have no clue on the working of Fumaderm.

But if you read more on the forum, you will find that I am the stubborn one and basically do not agree with mainly Fred.

Thanks for the info Caroline I will be armed with more information when I next discuss Fumerderm with my Dermatologist. The problem is I never get to see the organ grinder it is usually one of the Monkeys that I see and often they are not long out of training and are given the supposed easy patients to practice on. But as soon as you ask them an awkward question they skurry off for advice and probably because they havent understood the question. The experienced dermatologist just says stop the treatment. Its an easy option for them without having to do any research.

Sorry to hear about your Prostrate Cancer and also the conflict with Fumaderm which I understand has been working well to control your psoriasis.  I too have experienced excellent results with Fumaderm after +30 years of Psoriasis, now on maintenance of 1 x 120 mg per day for the last two years without a single lesion.  

For a clear explanation on the alleged conflict of your prostrate treatment with Fumaderm, suggest you or your Doctor send an e-mail to the manufacturer at E-Mail: germany.information
at biogenidec.com sending your question to the attention of  DR. MED. MARCUS NEUREITHER, Director Dermatology.  I have had to contact him in the past regarding interference of Fumaderm with surgical procedures and his response was prompt and very thorough.

Thanks Bill for that information. I will go armed with it next time I see my dermatologist, although I have just seen the Oncologist to discuss treatment for the dreaded cancer and he was not in the least perturbed when I explained what I had gleaned here from Caroline about the effects of Fumaderm. ( He himself had Psoriasis and spent a fair bit of time talking about Fumaderm treatment as he had not been aware of it).
I am going to continue to take it as I have a couple of months supply and will look forward to seeing my next set of blood results in a week or so, and prepare for a fight to continue if Dermatologist gets stroppy and bloods are good.

Just had a phone chat with my dermatologist who has had some inconclusive answers from the makers of Fumaderm. we had a long discussion and agreed to keep on with the tablets and monitor my bloods more closely, and have a meeting in a couple of months to review the situation, if there are any significant changes she will phone me and negotiate the future.
Meantime I will act on Bills suggestion and Email Fumaderm for their slant on the subject.

It might be interesting to point your Oncologist, as he also has psoriasis, to the medication I am using. The alternative for Fumaderm, called Psorinovo. It has several advantages.

Remember that your leukocytes principally may not be below the 1.0 value, Don't know exactly if it is mmol, or whatever unit, but normally it is between 1.0 and 3.something I thought.

Biogen has started to actively promote Tecfidera, and get through to the rest of the world. As they are large, doors will automatically open for them.
Basically this is the same stuff as Fumaderm, only 40 times more expensive.
They claim that this slows down the process of MS significantly, fumaderm, and any dimethylfumarate product will do the same.
What is the problem now?
Medics, insurances and politics will not see through this, they will not be aware that better solutions exist. They will suffer from tunnel views.

Surely the National Health Service in UK will see through the smoke haze and will always prescribe the cheapest option! (wont they)
