Hi,

Just been to see my dermatologist today and have finally managed to persuade him that light treatment/ointments and creams are not working, he said he didn't want me to go on methotrexate so has prescribed me cyclosporine.
First time I've tried anything like this so I'm a bit unsure about it... The leaflet with possible side effects is of similar thickness to the bible!

Anyway he says this is a short term fix to try and get me clear then we can have a look at trying some biologic treatments.

Anybody had much experience with cyclosporine? i have quite a physical job down a mine and am just a bit worried it might knock me for six.

Cheers

Jamie  Smile

Hi YL, I took cyclosporine for a short while but it was not very good for me but what is true is that what works for one does not necessarily work for someone else and side effects are the same. I tool MTX for nine years but quite a lot of people have bad side effects with that, it's just trying something to see how you go on and fingers crossed.
Welcome to the forum ,have a good look around because there is more information on here than almost anywhere else and all the inmates have P/PsA so they know what it's like . They are all very friendly and will try to help as much they can, Take care Dave

Hi Jamie ....I have no experience of cyclosporine but a few members here have used it if you type cyclosporine in the search button above it should lead you to every thread that cyclosporine is mentioned in, I just looked at a couple, who started posting when they were coming off it .
I hope you get on well with it and you can get clearance
Good luck

Hi Jamie I've used cyclosporine a couple of times. The only side effect I ever had from memory was dry mouth. It definitely helped bring my psoriasis to a clearer state but unfortunately I never fully achieved full clearance on it.

A dime from my side, which probably does not give you any real information, is that a well know singer over here in NL, a guy (well.... Guy...) called Gordon, uses it. He seems to be doing well on it.
He also tried DMF, but found the results would take too long, so stepped over to cyclosporine.

Evening Jamie Wave

When I lived in west Yorkshire, the dermatologist at Halifax hospital prescribed me cyclosporine.

Now, there are a few side effects Jamie and cyclosporine I think is one of the first things that dermatologists prescribe you to see how you get on with it.
I was on this stuff for a few months, I started on a low dose and over time the dosage was increased.
However, everytime I took cyclosporine, within an hour or so, my giblets were going round and round like a washing machine.
In the end, I was throwing up and the dermatologist took me off it.......thank christ.

Now, it cleared some of my P but never cleared it totally.

If you feel unwell Jamie or any other side-effects from cyclosporine, TELL your dermatologist or the dermatology department asap mate.

Hope it goes well for you and if you need anymore advice, we're here to help you OK ?

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies!

Haven't really had chance to get on the last couple of days.

I did a fair bit of research on the tablets and decided to go for it,  been taking them for four days now, only real side effects I'm getting are hot flushes, about an hour of feeling like my heads going to explode!

Have definitely seen some improvement in my skin after four days which I wasn't expecting so looking forward to hopefully clearing up a bit.

Fingers crossed  Big Grin
