I'm 19 years old and a male, about a year ago I started getting dermatitis on my hands and it made an impact on my work. as I'm a plumber I'm very hands on, so I'm constantly getting dusty and dry skin whether I like it or not.
But around a month or two ago I've slowly been flaring up with psoriasis on my arms and legs, I've not yet gone to the doctors about this as I've read up on a lot of sites saying they just give you steroid creams which is all I was given for my dermatitis which did not work.
At the moment I'm trying the homeopathic stuff.. Whether it works or not I don't know I'm just trying to grab at anything that will get rid.
But I was just wondering whether anyone has any advice or info as it's making a big impact on my home and work life and is quite depressing to say the least,

Hi Itchy and   to the club you will find a lot of information here, to help you ...as a young man it is important to get the Psoriasis under control , and I have to say I doubt you will get much relief from the disease from homeopathic treatment ....my best advice to you is to get your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist at a hospital... they have more to offer than a GP .

Hello Itchyarms   to Psoriasis Club.

You say you have psoriasis but you haven't been to a doctor. It's a big mistake self diagnosing psoriasis and you must get a proper diagnoses, psoriasis can sometimes be mistaken for other skin problems.

"Homeopathic stuff" will not help, and yes they will probably prescribe steroid creams but they can and do work with the added benefit of that you will get on the ladder to getting better treatment. Also as you have read on a lot of sites that is all they will prescribe, you have probably also read a lot of other things that say they will work or even cure it. But don't fool for it, you need to get a proper diagnoses and start getting proper treatment.

Do it now whilst you are 19. I'm not sure where N in your profile location is but most countries are more informed about psoriasis these days. If you carry on looking for a Homoeopathic approach you will be wasting your money and only end up seeking a dermatologist with an empty wallet and worse psoriasis when you are 29.

You asked for advise and the best I can give you is to first get a proper diagnoses and follow their lead. It will take time but there are many things that can help. If you go it alone now, you could regret it later on in life.

Hi itchy, nice to meet you!

It's true that the docs will want you to try creams to begin with but there are quite a few to try and they aren't all steroids, so it's probably worth getting things started down the road to the dermatologist. If you have tried a few things for your GP and they haven't helped you then can push for a referral. They have to put everyone on the same treatment 'pathway' so they can say they have tried things and they didn't work before they move you on to other treatments.

I was first diagnosed with dermatitis and given an ointment which didn't help. After being sent to a dermatologist, I got the proper diagnosis of psoriasis and then treatment. I agree with others, get an appointment with a dermatologist. Although I will admit that at first the dermatologist changed the ointment for another topical and it was only after that didn't work that I was offered UV and oral meds.

There's lots of info here on the different types of treatments available and knowing what's out there can help you greatly when discussing treatments with your doctor.

Hi and welcome to the club, I will reiterate what everyone has said , see the GP and insist that you see a dermatologist to get a proper diagnosis. Read on the different treatments and write it down so you have an idea of what is available and then see what the derm offers and take it from there. If it is P then it will want sorting out now so you can get the correct treatment . Have a good look around and ask any questions you want, the answers will be from people who have the problem so will bee truthful , what you won't get is adverts for rubbish that does not work at high prices to con you out of money .
