Hello everyone,

I have a diagnosis of psoriasis, made a couple of months ago.  Legs, thighs, arms, hands and feet.   Using Enstilar at the moment which helps.

I had a diagnosis of atopic eczema, full body, about a year ago,  got better over time, then bright red rectangular patch on both forelegs, no-one very sure what that was, and  dermatology said varicose eczema, but I think that was wrong. That faded with steroid cream.  Now had a rather typical psoriasis rash.

So I know its early days for me.... I am 78 years old. I also have severe Chronic Kidney failure,  no dialysis though yet.

I am curious to know if the progression from atopic eczema to psoriasis is common, or recognised, or unusual.

Thank you for reading this, and for any reply

Patrick

Hello Patrick,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub. We are a small club, but we spread out all over the world.
Quite some knowledge available over among our members, who will no doubt kick in to welcome you.

As far as I know atopic eczema and psoriasis are more or less mutual exclusive, but I will have to check that, I have a few years ago read an article about it.

Did you do a PASI-score already?
How much coverage do you have now?

Cheers,
Caroline

Hello Patrick  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Eczema and psoriasis are often misread and there can be a crossover, Enstilar is good but never going to keep you clear as it's not advisable to use long-term so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

A bit unusual to get psoriasis in late age, but thats the thing with psoriasis you never know when or who it will hit next so please do report back on how it is going.

Regards

Fred.

Welcome, Patrick.  I'm sorry you have these skin ailments at this time in your life.  One would think if we make it to the mid-70's or so, we should be free and clear of these conditions.

I have a friend who enjoyed excellent health for his adulthood and developed Rheumatoid Arthritis in his 70's (he's responding to Methotrexate without the terrible side effects and is now 81).  Another friend developed Inflammatory Bowel Disease in his 70's and is responding to his medication.  And now my neighbor, age 91, suddenly has severe arthritis after a lifetime of rigorously good health.  Go figure.

So I suppose your onset of psoriasis at age 78 goes along with my friends who developed ailments in their senior decades.  The good news is that each responded well to their medications and resumed regular living.  I hope this will be true for you, too.

But it sure isn't fair, I think.

This club has a wealth of information that should be helpful to you.  And it also has friendly people who understand. There is good humor here, too.  I'm glad you found us.

Welcome

FW

Hello Patrick - nice to meet you!

It is possible they just hadn’t got the diagnosis right, but I hope they get on top of your issues soon.

Hi Patrick, welcome to the group.
I have had psoriasis for many years with the PSA  turning up around twenty years ago.
I am 78 myself as well and apart from being old and decrepit I am not too bad , I am on Stelara but I use Enstlar on a few areas just to keep it under control, when I first started using it they warned me about keeping it well away from the eyes.
I see you are in Tyneside, I live just down the coast in Bridlington.
I think that you will find that there's lots of information on here and a great set of inmates.
