Thanks for the advice. I am hoping for a recommendation of using cosentyx as I would be very wary of using methotrexate. But, I guess the doctor will send me down the right path. I have been using dovobet for 3 years now. Not good, from what I am hearing. Next week I am seeing a new dermatologist and I pray for some relief. Thanks for the welcome.

Thank you Caroline. I have plaque psoriasis covering about 60% of my arms. I have plaque covering about 30% of my navel. Mild plaque on my chest. Plaque in many areas of my back. And of course, plaque on my knees. I have an appointment in about 10 days with a specialist. I am hoping I can come away with a new treatment plan. I have plaque on my head, in my ears, on my eyelids. I am feeling a bit desperate and have been depressed about this for quite some time because of the way view me and sometimes the way they treat me.

So here I am. Looking for treatments, ideas and a little hope. I had read that gluten has a negative effect on psoriasis, so I have cut my gluten intake in half. Dairy is another no no. Does this strike a nerve??

We all have our depressed moments and certainly it is lousy when people are looking and react careless.

On diary, you could try to avoid paprika’s, tomato’s, sharp herbs and peanuts (or basically anything baked in peanut oil) and oh.. no red wine. Those all are triggers. So… perhaps it helps a little. It’s worth trying.

I am a bit late to this thread, apologies, but welcome .

It sounds like your psoriasis is fairly bad and your Doctor really should have sent you to a dermatologist way before now. Dovobet should never be used for a protracted period of time, certainly not years. I was told 6 weeks max then a 12 week gap. It can thin your skin. There is a limit on how much skin you can cover at once as well. I hated the stuff. It was like applying battery acid. It only lasted 3 days before going in the bin.
Your Dermy will have access to better treatments. Chances are they will be tablets at first. I wouldn't dismiss Methotrexate out of hand. Yes I know it has a bad press but has given relief to thousands of sufferers. I am afraid it will take some time to find something that works for you - we are all so very different. 
As for diet, I have read similar things but I can honestly say I have ever had a reaction to certain food stuff. There are a few inmates that went to the extremes and cut everything out and it seems to have helped a couple or so but on the whole diet is inconclusive as far as I am concerned.
When you find out what you end up with, let us know. There will be someone somewhere that will have had experience of it and will be more than happy to share their experiences.

I get the feeling folks here will have alot to say about my treatment about my treatment or treatments. My first appointment with a specialist is on the 13th of this month. Let's all hope things go better. And yes, I do believe that psoriasis covers about 30% of my body. Which means that Dovobet ointment isn't an option for me.

Great you have an appointment. Do read threads here about the various options and let the dermatologist know that you know what treatments are available and what your preference is and be ready to discuss the options that are available
Here in the UK to my experience they work with blinkers on and start on the cheapest and slowly work through to find something that works.
I have found that they will listen though if they think you know a bit about the treatments.

When you visit your doctor, be as prepared as possible. 
Try to know your options… over here in the Netherlands we have so called consultcards. These cards offer an overview of all kinds of systemic medication that is available.

Another thing you can do is take the Three questions with you:

1. What are my possibilities?
   
2. What are the pro’s and con’s of those possibilities?
   
3. What does that mean in my situation? 
   

When you leave the conversation, it is good to have an answer to those questions. It will help you to step forward.

I concur with what Caroline said. Go in with written questions and a note pad. If you are anything like me you will forget  it all at first contact.  .

The other thing I always strongly advocate is take a partner/close friend into the consultation with you if they allow them in at the moment. I always find the consultant seems to take more attention when there is someone else close to the sufferer who can put their two penny worth in.
