Hi everyone
My son (who is 16) was diagnosed with psoriasis over a year ago. After finding our way through many doctors we have finally found a dermatologist that has started him on Stelara. First does was on November 16th and his next injection is scheduled for December 14th.
No sign of immediate improvement as of yet. Scalp is flaking very badly and making it difficult for him to attend school. We struggle with the emotional issues that psoriasis can cause, especially when you are a teenager.

Welcome to the best site on the internet for Psoriasis with the most comprehensive information and friendly people with out any body pushing treatments and con artists trying to make money from magic cures.
You can tell your son that he should be looking forward to starting clearance from the second injection and by the time he is ready for the third injection will be probably almost clear. Stelara is,in my opinion, the best treatment for Psoriasis in recent years.

Hello Hanksmom  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

We have had another member from Canada in the same situation as you, but sadly she has not logged-in for 6 months so we can only assume it's going well for her son.

She does have a thread about his progress on Stelara, but it is in section of Psoriasis Club where only members with 10+ posts can see. So it would be unfair for me to share, but I will say her last post was very encouraging.

Yes psoriasis does cause a lot of emotional issues, but we are here to help as we understand. And most of us were once teenagers too.  Big Grin

Have a good look around and ask questions if you have any, none of us are medical professionals and we are just people living with psoriasis but you will soon find we are friendly bunch.

If you do want to see the thread I mentioned, please just make 10 posts and that board will then open and I will be happy to point you to it. Some of our members choose to keep their threads for trusted members only, I'm not saying you are not trusted and you are welcome to read all the other threads but it's there to protect our members that prefer to keep their information away from the public boards.

If you need any help finding your way around, shout out and someone will soon find you.

Regards to you and your son.

Fred.

Hi Hanks mum  Welcome to the club this is a great place for sufferers and carers of sufferers to gain information and ask questions. We are not health professionals but have gathered together a wealth of information about the disease and it's treatments

I well remember as a teenager being mortified that I was flaking everywhere and leaving streams of flakes wherever I went. Sadly in those days the internet hadn't been invented and I really felt I was alone and what I would have given to have a place like this to come to for information.
Sounds like your son has been put on a treatment that many of our members have used and had long term clearance with.
Have a good look around and if you want to search for threads about Stelara  just click Search and type in Stelara but I would tick where it says thread titles only

If you get stuck anywhere just shout and someone will soon offer help

Hi Hanksmom Wave  and a warm welcome to the Club.

I'm a good bit older than your son and not got as far down the line as the 'Good Stuff' as in Bio's, but I can appreciate how it is affecting him. Its never a good age to get this damned disease but it is so much worse at that age, but Stellara does get good reviews on here Thumb
Fortunately you have found us - it isn't made as easy as it could be these days and we are here to help everyone that comes this way.
If you need a good rant there will be someone somewhere willing to listen, or if you are bored we have a good off topic section where you can relax in the bar for a chat.

The one thing you will not see is any bullying or scam artists. I can honestly say the core 'Inmates' have become good internet friends over the years.

Welcome

Stelara has worked well for a lot of members here. Sadly, it didn't help me. Scalp psoriasis can be difficult I think.

I hope he sees results soon!

Hi Hanksmom   Wave

Welcome to the club!  Another Canadian  Smile

I've taken Stelara and my psoriasis cleared up very quickly! Absolutely no side effects either  Big Grin

Unfortunately it didn't work for my psoriatic arthritis .

I hope your son sees improvements very quickly.

Hi Hanks mom nice to meet you Wave

I do hope you get somewhere with stelara but if not there should be another bio that will work. There seems to be a certain amount of trial and error.
With the scalp issue, I imagine you’ve probably already tried lots of things but I did personally find oilatum shampoo to be useful and also if he’s washing his hair every day, it might be worth experimenting with cutting down on that, I came to the conclusion its exposure to water that causes me more irritation and flakiness.
I know that’s probably going to be an unpopular experiment with a teenager though..
