Hi.. Ive been search this place and also the inspire page in the US and although GI / diarrhea is a listed side effect there doesnt seem much else on it: Novartis is stating it cannot cause IBD... it can only bring it on if the person had it already but I have seen one person on this page and another in the US who did not have it before, and do have it now.
I think I fall into this category... the pain started on my second monthly dose after the 5 loading doses...I was doing really well until then and the GI issues were severe: severe diarrhea for a week with severe cramping.. this lasted a month, now I am on anti ulcer meds which help a little with pain but the pain was across the whole system from stomach down to colon. though mostly upper.
Am waiting for tubes and cameras but the wait list is a while! ... has anyone else experienced this? They are suggestingI change to a different biologic but I am quite worried about trying something new now.... I basically lost a month of my life lying in bed or running to the loo!

Hi Edinburgh and Welcome to the club. I'm glad you found your way to us Thumb we have several members on cosentyx, but I'm not sure which thread has anyone with ibd but I'm sure a member on cosentyx will be able to point you towards it when they see this.

Also it's getting near time for our monthly newsletter to be sent out so I will give it a mention there and it might get more of a response

If you havent already subscribed to our free newsletter which comes out on the first of each month and you would like a copy just click this link Groups and tick the box join group

Good luck Jim

Never had any problems with diarrhoea and been on Cosentyx almost 3 years now. I do recall some other members saying they had problems, if you try the search facility you may find more Search but I couldn't find anything linking Coesntyx with IBD.

Had you have been on the loading dose I would say it could be the problem, but you are on your second maintenance dose so I would have thought you would have had a problem before now. (but that's just my own thoughts)

Hopefully the investigation will tell you more, but don't be put off trying another bio as there may be one out there that is just what you need. We are all different and what works for one may not work for the other, DMF is another example where some complain of stomach problems and others do very well on it. A different Bio may be the answer: Biological Treatments For Psoriasis

Good luck and do keep us updated as your input could help others in the future.

Welcome to Psoriasis Club.  Wave

Regards.

Fred.

I didn't have any problems while on Cosentyx however, I do remember the dermatologist asking me if I had IBS, IBD, Crohn's disease. She said even if it I had no symptoms and it's dormant the Cosentyx would bring it out. So although it's not a side effect it does sound like it's a problem if you are prone to have those.

I'd definitely check with my doctor on that one.

Welcome
