Scalp Psoriasis Lumps

Bloody weird question, but why does psoriasis on your scalp appear in lumps, but the rest of your body doesn't?  I know sometimes you can get raised plaques on your skin, but not to the extent of the scalp.

Good question and I don't know the answer, but a guess would be maybe because the hair follicles are growing out at a faster rate on your scalp than the rest of the body maybe ?

I agree with Fred the scalp psoriasis grows faster on my scalp than on my skin gets so thick then I start picking at my scalp which makes it worse.Sometimes I get it bleeding.

Yes I'm not sure if my plaques were lumpy but the skin certainly grows much quicker there... and the build up does get thick in my hair , and getting it out usually,  used to make  me pull chunks of hair out with the scale
I hated scalp psoriasis as it also causes so many flakes and a lot of embarrassment

To be honest, this question is for your doctor not this forum. Plaque psoriasis can be a result of others; some people with guttate eventually get plaque as a result of guttate flare. The result typically makes plaque spread out. Sometimes this becomes a big plaque.

I know that when I scratched my scalp psoriasis I normally got an infection with it. That os why I think it's better to call and talk someone. Maybe it's just psoriasis, but better to be safe.

Matari I agree with Amanda I think you misunderstood her post, it was more of an observation and she was asking what others thought.  

On a side note: I still disagree with you telling members they should ask their doctor and not ask members of Psoriasis Club, people know we are not medical professionals and I wouldn't want to put anyone off asking other members opinions as it is what a forum is about. But we have this conversation before, Why some countries play with their own psoriasis treatments so I won't hijack this thread and we will have to agree to disagree.

As for scalp psoriasis I can only speak about myself. My plaque tends to form around edges of the scalp and hence it is thicker. I usually get clump in the middle and the rest is thinly spread out. When it really clumps up I typically have an infection.

To try to bring this post back on topic, as for why for psoriasis may clump more on the scalp than other parts of the body may be my more related to the disease and it's severity than a single district characteristic. Just my 2 cents, I might be wrong.

I think that's a bit of an unfair statement to make as many different types of Psoriasis are talked about throughout the forum. Obviously plaque is the most common which is why it is spoke about more often.

Interesting about the clumps appearing in the middle as that's where most of mine are at the moment. I'm slightly confused by your last comment though, what do you mean by "may be my more related to the disease and it's severity than a single district characteristic"

Bluntly speaking, clumping or thickening of scales is characteristic of disease severity than a common characteristic of scalp psoriasis itself. Not everyone with scalp psoriasis has clumps in the middle of their scalp. But if go untreated long enough it tends to build up. My 2 cents. I wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to explain my words. I am a math person. I suck at writing stuff.
