I'm a believer in self healing ( I mean you just about gotta be with an incurable disease.) So I've been down every path you can imagine over my 17 yr "sentence" with this. Paleo..probioticts..etc. (hell, I ate whole chickens and avacadoes for 57 days till I finally collapsed) But I still take probioticts and believe it all starts with a healthy gut. Now. Is it a coincidence that antibiotics aggregate my P emminsly. And pro biotics make me feel good? Ex. I had acne on my back that just never left after my teen years(wasn't bad but it still bothered me,  so I did proactive and other stuff to no availe) .34yrs old and 2 wks of pro biotics and my skin was clear.of (acne) Now I'm no doctor but ain't all of this sounding familiar. Probioticts(flora)infection (acne)  enzymes killing bacteria..good vs. Evil.idk maybe it is BS...hope not.
? Is wheres the infection? Is it really that simple? Fact is WE are all our own walking science experiments and WE know more than any doctor. Its part of us.  btw: even simple as it sounds(phagen-theiry) I'm sure theyd make it unaccessable and like a million$ haa

I don’t trust them either Cory. Smile
They are driven by the dollar signs, not by the drive to cure people. They don’t have an oath, like doctors do have.

You are doing well with your probiotics. That is looking good. Certainly food is an important issue in the well being of ones body.

Btw I am absolutely certain that you did not go every path. Tongue you for sure never have used dimethylfumarates... simply because this is not available at your side of the ocean. Wink

Hi Caroline,  I've just read a little about fumerites from your threads. I'm still a little confused about their function. Is it an immune suppresser like methotrexate?  I suppose I could look it up but you seem to know your stuff.  And I suppose they are. inexpensive too.  That is because I'm on the other side of the pond. Thanks so much

Hi Bill is using DMF raw to treat his psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis See this link Bill's pure dimethylfumarate thread
I'm not suggesting you do what he has but it's a thread worth reading Thumb

I'm sure Caroline will tell more of DMF action on the body

Hi Cory,
Most of what Dimethylfumarate (DMF) is, is described in Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis.

In short, no it is totally different from methotrexate, that is just a chemo that bluntly suppresses your immune system.
Fumarates are an essential part of the energy cycle of your cells, so it is a body owned substance. Without this energy cycle your cells will die.
When you suffer from an auto immune disease like Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis, there are all kinds of messengers in your immune system that go berserk, they work too hard. The most known of them are the interleukins IL-23 and IL-17, but not limited to them.
When you add DMF into your system, this gets quickly transformed in your intestines to MonoMethylFumarate, which has the result that this energy cycle gets pumped up and the total effect of this together with probably other chemical reactions of MMF, will moderate those messengers in your immune system.
In all, your immune system comes back to rest, and starts working again at a normal level, but with a raised energy cycle.
The effect? Psoriasis and Arthretic Psoriasis will go down in their cages.

E.g. the biologicals Stelara and Cosentyx also target these interleukins, but in a different way, Cosentyx blocks the receptors on the cells that connect to IL-17, and thus stops the expression of Psoriatic Arthritis.

Hope this gives some light on DMF.

In detail it is even more complex, but I am not a medic or physician, so I cannot explain that.

Are the results comparable to biologics?  How about the cost?  So it boosts your immune system. Instead of weakening it, like biologics?  I'm sorry for the flood of questions.

It moderates your immune system to a level that is closer to normal. Still you have to take care in the sense that if you take too much of the DMF, than it can moderate too much and lower your immune system. I have used it for about 15 years now, and i have never had any serious infection, so all the time my immune system has been ok. Of course sometimes a flu or influenza still does happen.
So, yes the results are comparable to biologicals. No Psoriasis nor psoriatic arthritis anymore if it works for you, it works for about 70% of the people who try it, either by reducing Psoriasis or by completely having it go away. (Ask Jim)

Price. Well. The basic stuff is extremely cheap. Ask Bill, he will astonish you.
Over with us in the Netherlands, I about pay € 380 for 600 x 120 mg pills, I needed 5 to 6 per day, so that is for about 100 days, is three months.
I think that most bio's are on the level of $ 15000 per year?
So it is way cheaper.

You have it also in the states, as a medication for MS, but then suddenly it is 20 times more expensive.

More people get their own DMF. I don't know if I can place any links? But if you google "making dmf capsules" you'll find some blogs and people on fora who make them, mostly for MS. Maybe you can find a doctor who can help you and do the bloodtests?
