I'm not sure who told you that but they are wrong. There is no reason to avoid any foods or drinks with Stelara or any Bio as far as I know.

I was told that anything that held bugs such as pate,as you said raw eggs etc and to be very careful with things like bean sprouts which can contain salmonella. I was also told when I was on MTX to avoid anything that could contain bugs as with all these kind of treatments your immune system is very low so anything nasty can really be a big problem.

I don't want to derail Artemies thread, but I would like to know of any evidence about avoiding any foods whilst on a Bio. So if anyone does have evidence please PM me as I would like to read up on it and publish the findings in a new thread.

me nether, perhaps this will refresh your memory

Thank you ajack you have been reading well.  Big Grin

But like I said in that post:

I think that part would be better worded as "Avoid Salmonella" as it makes it sound like you should avoid the products mentioned, but salmonella can be found in other sources too such as:

Raw fruits and vegetables, alfalfa sprouts, melons, spices, and nuts. It can also be found in snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, birds, and even in pet food and those that don't wash their hands.

I still think that article is misleading and should it be necessary to avoid raw egg and fish whilst on Stelara I'm sure it would be on the patient information leaflet as they wouldn't want to risk anyone having problems.

I do believe some should avoid raw fish or egg with a weak immune system, but a lot of things can weaken the immune system.

At the end of the day we all have to go with what we are happy with, for me the only thing I have been told to avoid whilst on Stelara and all Bio's is live vaccines.

I was told when I started with it to avoid any food that had the potential to contain bacteria such as foods with raw eggs such as mayonnaise and foods like pate. I had bad problems with stomach trouble when I was on MTX and he virtually said the same thing for that. I was also told to avoid any body who had an infectious problem like flu or colds etc. I know that when I was on MTX we had a good night out and the ice in the drink gave me food poisoning so if there was any chance of repeating that episode I am not that bothered to do so.

I don't have access to messages Fred, so I am unable to respond.
It seems that I have stumbled into an ongoing issue on the forum. Common sense is telling me to walk away from it. It was my doctor that told me about foods that should be avoided and I can't tell which raw egg will make me sick and which raw egg won't. It just seems a sensible thing to do. Given that the drug I am taking suppresses my immune system.

In response to your request for information. I googled: stelera raw eggs and that thread came up on the search, I then noticed that you posted in it about the stelera warning in the brochure.

Also tell your doctor if you have or have ever had any disease that affects your immune system, such as cancer, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection or viral hepatitis. Avoid dairy foods that are not pasteurised. Camembert, Brie and blue cheeses, pâté or eggs, meat or poultry that are not adequately cooked pose a risk of salmonella infection. Contact your doctor if you get an infection, or any symptom or sign of an infection, including: a fever, lethargy, a cough, influenza-like symptoms, warm, red or painful skin, swollen glands or open sores on your body.

Yes you can't send PM's till you have made 5 posts. I think you have also got one about the link from Jim. I have now removed the link from All posts. I'm not sure how it got through, but we have a no link policy and it shouldn't have been there. Nothing against you but Jim was right to mention it.

Sorry for the confusion.   Smile

I'm not sure what you mean by "It seems that I have stumbled into an ongoing issue on the forum. Common sense is telling me to walk away from it." ?
