Nope that will never happen on Psoriasis Club, if it does let me know and they will be shown the door.

We are all different and have different opinions, but if anyone is thinking of coming here to troll or bully then I would suggest they look elsewhere as they are not welcome.

I read all the Low Dose Naltrexone posts on the site and enjoyed them thoroughly--they've all been closed for good reasons/false promises. I'm new here, but as Fred can already tell, I'm basically a mad scientist much too willing to make leaps from my own experiences as a patient and health care provider into the unknown. I've been on LDN off and on for a year or so. Much like DMF, it has also been studied in multiple sclerosis. It causes the body to notice a slight depletion in endorphins and make more to compensate. This in turn boosts immunity. A full dose would be only be useful to decouple morphine or heroin from mu receptors.

It has made a slight difference with my skin issues that is sometimes only apparent if I stop taking it for a while. More specifically, I seem to have fewer serious/random outbreaks.  It is cheap and I found it easy to create a water soluble solution with for simple dosing of 3mg nightly. I don't feel it would be worth the effort to crush and pack little capsules with. I felt wired at first and had to increase the dose 1 mg per week at a time (5mg LDN is generally a max dose). The only long term side effect is vivid dreams, which I find fun.  Cool

I think LDN makes the most sense if coming off biologicals, but as a stand alone therapy it may not be adequate. It sure hasn't been for me. Of course, boosting immunity is a positive effect regardless. Because of the complexity of auto-immune issues, it could be theoretically possible to take LDN even while on immune-supressants (think of a patient on chemo eating a healthy, anti-oxidant diet), but of course the more likely effect is that they would cancel each other out.

Comparing LDN and DMF? My view is that as a point of concurrence they both have three letters and as a point of difference DMF works. The good news is that LDN wont kill you; The bad news is that you probably wont get any better for taking it. I would love to be proved wrong here, but I dont see any well documented success stories as I do with the likes of Cosentyx, just reams of unsubstantiated drivel. The only pilot study I saw failed to release any results, and that is a big red flag for me. I have had great success with DMF for just over four years, and for clearance and consistency it has been well beyond my expectations. Had I gone down the ldn path I would probably now be covered in scales and crippled with arthritis: This is my objection to the snake oil salesman. I see them as cheating people out of their lives with false hopes, so I tend to view them as Borat views gypsies.

Cheers,

Bill

Good point. From my own experience, I find LDN to be a slightly useful adjunct, but there is no objective info on its use on psoriasis--just a lot of fanboy drivel.

The connection between DMF and MS has already been made at least 30 years ago, there are studies from that time that DMF works for a whole series of auto immune diseases, like MS,Crohns and PS. Over here in the Netherlands, it was chosen by my doctor to enhance it and use it for Psoriasis as with psoriasis the most obvious results could be made visible, much better that with MS.
My doc at that time already knew the effects for other auto immune diseases but it was totally not recognised by standards medical care.
On an on new applications are being found for DMF.
This may be very logical as the fumarates form a very important part of the energy cycle of our cells.

No offence to anyone but I can see this thread getting spun into a DMF thread. And as has already been pointed out most LDN threads have been closed for good reasons or false promises, so I don't want to see this becoming a slanging match. The DMF Gang do back up what they say, but no LDN member has been able to back up what they say so I'll now close this one too.

You are welcome to start new threads about LDN if you feel the need but I see no point in dragging this one up again as it was started in 2014 and the original starter hasn't been back since one day after joining.

I also see no reason to keep the thread going, it's old and has had no input from the thread starter since it's opening.

I'm willing to listen to objections and you are all welcome to contact me or start a new LDN thread if you wish, but let's not keep dragging up old threads as it's not going to help our readers.

Give new facts or follow ups, that is what people want to see.
