How did you get Otezla? I am interested in trying this over Acetrein (side-effects annoying). Can you advise? Are you in UK?

I just thought I would respond following my derm appointment...
I was seen earlier this week at Guy's hospital, London, which is a good place I think for derm treatment and they advised me that Otezla is definitely not available on the NHS. It may be that you are part of a trial or your dermatologist sought special dispensation for prescribing off NICE's approved list (I think this has to be done through the local authority) Basically, the doctor said that NICE - who decided medications that we can or cannot be generally prescribed - have advised that Otezla is not cost effective, when compared to other oral medications and it currently costs around £800 per month to prescribe! (The cost to the NHS) I would still like to give it a go but it seems will have to wait a while until it becomes cheaper...NICE are very powerful in these situations

Just thought I would reply.
I am in Scotland and my consultant informed me this drug costs £7500 per year. However she believes it is cost effective as in my case, I no longer need UVA treatment, or daily visits to be wrapped in tar and bandages, the huge amount of steroid creams and tablets for itch etc. In fact all I need now is Epiderm and a small amount of diprosalic. However she is being cautious as it is new.

Hi all, firstly sorry I haven't been on for a while.....life gets in the way I guess!!!!.......well my otezla journey has ended today, when I told my dermatologist that I have had diorea and stomach issues for the past 6 months he said this is a known side effect of otezla,
he was worried about the loss of fluids and minerals ect and has taken me off it, I have a appointment for 2 months to take about Biological drugs!!....oh well I had 2 relatively clear years.........back on the psoriasis roundabout!!!!!! |
