Glad to see you are getting ideas of ways forward, Several members are using vitamin D supplements to supplement the natural sunshine that should keep the levels up. When the summer (ha ha ) arrives get as much skin exposed as you can and get the vitamin D naturally

I take 4000 IU daily of Vit D3. The doctor said I could take 5000 IU daily but I haven't increased it quite that much. I was only taking 2000 so the 4000 doubled it. If it's still low next visit I'll increase.

It is important and perhaps more so right now with most of us being less active and not getting out as much (at least I know that's true for me)

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. My vitamin D is just slightly low. With the addition of fish 3 times a week and stepping out into the sun, sitting in a sun filled room all day at work has boosted my levels to a more appropriate level. My Doctor told me that if I took the Vitamin D supplement, I would likely develop kidney stones, as this has been an issue in my life.  I only mention this because it hadn't been mentioned in previous threads that I saw.

Cheers!

Well I've been on different amounts for quite some time. Not sure I ever asked the doctor the questions I had. If I did.... I have forgotten the answer. Confused

I do know I tried Vit D the natural way, as well as having light therapy and my Vit D runs low unless I supplement it. Right now I'm getting some sun exposure and taking one 125 mcg (5,000 IU) per day and my levels about two months ago (when I was actually getting MORE sun) was just barely over the lower end of the ok range. In the past I was taking the 2,000 IU but my numbers dipped too low.

Vitamin D supplements have been great for me. I had problems with my liver - Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (elevated ALT levels), GP had me get all my bloods checked and they discovered I had a Vitamin D deficiency below 12. After a month of Vitamin D supplements 3,200 IU. My ALT levels returned to normal and the my joints which were inflamed and sore, are no longer. My chronic plaque psoriasis had faded away also (very faint patches). Now it's been a few weeks since I finished the course, and my psoriasis has come back, but my joint and liver problems appear to be all good. I suffer with depression as well but I feel so much better in myself since I've been on the supplements. I feel less fatigued and tired and just better in general.

I think I've probably had a Vitamin D deficiency for years, in all honesty.

Thanks.

Hi A!

I've been on Vitamin D supplements for years now and I also have Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Sadly, although my Vitamin D levels are in the normal range now, I haven't noticed any improvement in my psoriasis or Liver Disease. Confused

I think it is getting fairly common for people to find out they have lower Vit D levels just due to not spending as much time in the sun. We've all been told how bad the sun is for our skin and with modern technology tend to not be outside as much. I try in the summer to get outside and get some sun as I find it helps not only with Vitamin D but there's nothing quite like fresh air and sunshine!

I'm glad you had improvements! Thumb

Hi BigA  and welcome to the club, I hope you enjoy our forum, it's good to read that vitamin d supplements have helped you feel fitter and less fatigued . I'm sorry to read that since you stopped taking  it your psoriasis has returned can you continue using the supplements ? If they had a good effect on the skin and your feeling of wellbeing
