Hi everyone, I went to the hospital today for my first appointment in 6 month's.
I was previously on MTX and had major problems after having a course of Malaria tablets.
I am now being given the option of going back on the MTX, or go on to Ciclosporin or even Acitretin....?????
Can anyone give me any info on the latter two, as the info I have is very basic?
Many thanks in advance
Regards
Micky.

Hello Micky, I've not used them myself so hopefully someone will have more info. But for now you could try the "The Electronic Medicines Compendium" you can find it the Psoriasis Club Links page.

They did not give you the option of BG-12? Fumaderm or other?
Probably not.
It remains strange, that only Germany and NL are on the dimethylfumarates track.

I will perservere with my research on these treatments, so that I can go back in 4 weeks armed with the information to make an educated decision.
Obviously there are pro's and cons with any new form of treatment, so I can at least ask any relevant questions, based on the research I have done.
Thanks all
Regards
Micky

Share the responses of the doctor with us, so we also can learn or comment.

@Caroline Micky is in the UK under the NHS and I don't think they offer your option unfortunately.

@Micky Have you thought of giving the Biological Treatments For Psoriasis a try? they have totally transformed my life from completely covered and unable to move, to clear apart from a couple of patches that are clear but a slight difference in pigment (and that is fading). Oh and apart from the odd small PsA problem when it's damp, I'm able to live a normal life.

Fred.

Biological treatments was the first thing I mentioned to the Doctor at the hospital yesterday, but they said we have to exhaust all the tablet options first.
I would imagine this is a typical NHS response...???
I had my latest blood tests done about an hour ago, and they said for some reason, some of my results are being sent to London, again I don't know why.
Well, I will let you know what the outcome of my next hospital visit, which is in 4 weeks, as I am keen to know what they will recommend too.
The Ciclosporin and Acitretin both have downfalls with side effects or other reasons not to use them, so I will see what the Consultant recommends for me.
I am now settled in my new home (moved early February) and so should be able to get on here a bit more regularly again.
Best Regards to all
Micky

Interesting I was talking to another member the other day via PM and she was asking me about Stelara as she was being offered the Bio's after trying MTX, I had the impression she refused to go onto Ciclosporin.

That would be good. Thumb

It does have drawbacks and I am not really sure about it, especially after reading the information on it.
I was also told that the department at the hospital I attend, actually deal with all the Bio treatments on a regular basis.
I think I am going to have to be more pushy about the treatment I want.
