I am also a sufferer of psoriasis. Have had this horrible affliction for bout 12 years now and nothing has worked so far apart from light treatment but this was only short lived. I am now starting Fumaderm only on my 4th day. Today developed a red prickly heat rash on chest, back and arms for bout 20 mins. Is this what they call flushing? Can't wait to hear from anyone Smile

Hello Audrey Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I can understand why you say a "horrible affliction" but I always say to people try not to look so negative about it, and I've been pulled up in the past but I believe in accepting you have it and trying not to describe it in such a negative way can help immensely.

OK lecture done with. There are other members using Fumaderm who are better suited than me to help you and I'm sure you will hear from some. Jim has a knowledge of Fumaderm, Caroline can give you a lot of information on Dimethylfumarates as can Bill and I'm sure they will answer.

I just wanted to say hello, and please don't hesitate to join in. You will find us a small but friendly bunch.

Regards.

Fred.

Thanks for your message. I know I shouldnt be negative but it's very difficult sometimes. But of course your right.
I look forward to speaking with other Fumaderm users to compare notes.

Hi Audrey great to see you on here I love to meet a fellow Fumaderm user. You are right about psoriasis it is an awful disease. But hopefully suffering with it will be a thing of the past as Fumaderm should work and give you a clear skin
I'm pleased you have posted and I really hope you have success with Fumaderm the way I have
Yes the prickly heat thing is probably due to the Fumaderm. it seems to last up to half an hour then subsides .... You are very early in your treatment on your fourth day you are probably on Fumaderm initial which are the starter dose... You will get these flushes but do take your tablets with meals and plenty of fluid it should get the active ingredient through your stomach into your intestine where it should do its work. Be aware you may get stomach cramps but they won't last long and all the side effects do get better as your body gets used to it
Do come back often and keep us updated on your progress. We have a few Fumaderm and DMF users on here who will be able to offer advice on what works for them

You're welcome Audrey, you will soon find out I try to keep people positive.

But I see Jim has already replied to you, so I will leave you to the Fumaderm gang. You will probably get others saying hello, and like I said don't hesitate to join in. If you venture into the [Group Specific] board you will find I'm the sensible one. Smile

Good to meet you Jim. It's so good to speak to people who understand. Thanks for the reassurance. I got quite a shock when this redness suddenly appeared today. They said I may suffer flushing but I thought it would be on my face and not my upper body. But hey ho you learn something everyday. Anyway I am really glad already that I've joined this group. I certainly hope to keep you posted bout my progress.

You will find us all very approachable I'm sure you will enjoy your time here and you will get some good advice about the use of DMF which is what Fumaderm is. It is always good to read of others experiences. As I said before if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, and usually you will get a quick response

Fred has pointed you at the off topic boards they are worth a look for some light relief, and we now have a chatting thread if you want to chat with other members.
As I said initially take plenty of fluid with the tablets and only take them with meals, it will keep the side effects down ... It won't stop them but should make them bearable

Thanks again Jim. Smile. I look forward to navigating my way around and chatting to you all. My journey has only just begun on this Fumaderm but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works. I have tried all the usual topical lotions etc and have also tried methotrexate but no help from any of them which was really disappointing. However I'm hopeful for this one. I will defo take with food and a good drink (water lol).

Oh and another thing I'm usually somewhere near a device so if you have a question just post on here or the chatting thread and I will get back to you .....I work late into the night so never worry about disturbing me
I take mine with any drink including beer with my dinner at night Big Grin it doesn't seem to affect the Fumaderm but I enjoy it

Is it okay to drink alcohol with this then? I know with Mtx it had to be very limited. Not that I drink a lot but it would be nice if going out with friends.
