There will be one that will work .....
I look forward to hearing what the dermatologist gives you when you return
Jim
thanks jim, will let you know..,,,,, well had my hospital appointment today,, and after chest xray and blood test, i begged for cosyntix or stelera, but no chance its going to be methatrexate. and the doctor said i cant give you cosyntix cos im scared, theres to many unanswered questions about bio drugs n you might develop cancer?? lol but she did say there very very expensive, and that says alot. fobbed off?? maybe Hi Martin. I'm glad you have got something even if it is Methotrexate, it's a drug that's widely used and as I think we all warned you, it's one of the drugs that you have to try as it's part of the protocol ...but it could very well work for you....it worked for me ....but I just couldn't tolerate it.....many on here use it and it works for them without any problems
For your dermatologist to suggest the reason for not giving you Cosentyx is for fear of it giving you cancer, is scandalous ....all drugs as you can read on here have to go through rigorous trials before they come to market..The only reason they won't give it is the price is so high and Methotrexate is so cheap,
I wish you luck on the Methotrexate and hope you keep a record here if your progress
Jim
hi jim, yeah i thought it was out of order her going on about cancer, anyhow i start my methotrexate in two weeks if my bloods are clear and chest xray ok. ill keep you posted, fingers crossed
I look forward to reading to hearing its successful

I hope you get a good result, Martin. I wouldn't be angry with your dermatologist for warning you about the safety of biologics. There is no systemic treatment for psoriasis without risk. Belinda had an anaphylactic reaction with infliximab and look at Marcia's experience with secukinumab. How would you feel about your dermatologist if you had such a response and were not forewarned?

You should get yourself another dermatologist. I'm sorry but for them to say that is disgusting practice, to frighten people with cancer from using the Bio treatments is well out of order. Yet they are happy to let you ruin your liver with methotrexate.
Sorry Martin I'll get off my soapbox.

Yes probably the case, but they should say that instead of mentioning cancer. I fully understand and agree if there is a high risk it should be not only mentioned but pulled, but it's wrong to frighten people without enough evidence in my opinion.

Let's say you had 1000 people with p who were unresponsive to topicals and only $2 million annually to spend on medication. Now if 70% responded to DMF powder, you might treat 700 for ~$2100. You could then treat 210 of the remainder with methotrexate for perhaps another $2500. You would then be left with over $20k per person for those unresponsive to either therapy.
Yes, my numbers are silly, but I just wanted to make the point that putting people trough a treatment sieve will at least allow better outcomes for the really tough cases. Public health is about giving the best outcome for as many as you can.
Cheers

Most modern healthcare systems are more concerned about short term costs over long term costs. It doesn't make sense not to provide effective treatment at the start since it's been shown to significantly reduced long term cost.
