Hello Cathy, I'm sorry I was unable to help but I don't have much experience of Folic Acid. However it does seem a high dose you are taking to me, but I'm only saying that because when I briefly tried methotrexate again I was on a 5Mg injection of methotrexate on Mondays and 5Mg of folic acid on Tuesdays. So as you are on 5Mg per day it just sounds a bit high to me. (But like I say my knowledge is minimal in regards to folic acid)
I did find this statement if it helps:
Quote:
No cases of acute overdosage appear to have been reported, but even extremely high doses are unlikely to cause harm to patients. No special procedures or antidote are likely to be needed.
Re: "What is this poison I am putting in my body?"
Folic acid (Folate) is Vitamin B9 it can be found in dark green leafy vegetables, fruits and fruit juices, nuts, beans, peas, dairy products, poultry and meat, eggs, seafood, grains. avocado, beetroot, spinach, liver, yeast, asparagus, brussel sprouts.
So it's not really a poison, and any excess in your body will be passed with urine as your body will not require it. Methotrexate can block access to folate so the folic acid is taken to compensate.
Yes your dermatologist does care and will work with you to find something that works. Having said that you need to be happy with your dermatologist and have a good relationship with them, so if you're not sure your dermatologist is looking after you correctly I would ask to see another one. It's your body, and you need to be happy to help treat psoriasis
I hope that has helped a bit, and I'm sorry I couldn't help more but like I said I'm no expert.
I noticed you said you have tried Fumaderm and Acitretin before and now methotrexate is causing you problems so it could be time to push for one of the Bio treatments see here:
