Hello all,
My name is Scott. I'm 59 and have had psoriasis since I was seven. It didn't take long to get severe, which made my teen years rather challenging. (Diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis in mid-twenties.) Needless to say I've had quite a few years to learn to deal with it. I have it over most of my body, mostly thin, red, with less flaking, but other spots thicker with lots of flakes. Frankly, I can remember what it was like not to have this disease.

I've been through many doctors, tried many treatments, (no biologics yet,) and don't have much faith in the safety of the newer stuff. (You might say I've become a bit 'jaded' with the medical establishment's approach to treating my condition over the last 50 years.) I feel like my best path is through diet. (Keto or Carnivore.)

For a long while I thought I would go through this life on my own, but at about 30 years old I met a wonderful woman who was able to see past the 'surface' and love me for who I am. We have two kids, and yes, I worry about them developing this condition, but so far it hasn't happened.

I've learned a great about myself and other people in coping with psoriasis, and haven't escaped the emotional and psychological effects I'm sure most of you understand, but all in all, my skin and I have come to an understanding: It's going to do what it's going to do, and I'm not going to let it ruin my life.

I'm very happy to talk to anyone about it on here, so don't be a stranger.

Good morning Scott,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.

It’s morning over here, so you might suspect I am in another part of the world. As is with a lot of members of this club. We are spread all over the world.

Thanks for your introduction. Quite a heavy life you have (had), and very happy that your children still do not have Psoriasis, I do get your alertness for that. My son also does not have Psoriasis yet, so I know the feeling. And yes, there are women who can see the real man behind the skin and fall in love with that man. I love it that it worked for you.  Smile

Also I get your careful approach of the medical establishment.  Likewise with me… I finally found my treatment with an immunology trained doctor, not with dermatologist or rheumatologist.
At psoriasisclub several member use the modern biologics and they are very content with that, as you will find out, swarming around over the forum. But there are also members who are aiming at food and lifestyle, like you are trying now.

Psoriasisclub is not only a serious club on psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis, with lots and lots of knowledge registerd in the forum.
It is also a club of people who are in equal situations, we don’t have to tell each other how or what this disease is… we know and we all accept each other on who we are and there is a lot of fun and banter around.. you will get that very quickly.
There are even people who will tell you that they are the only sane one around. It is better not to believe them.    Rolleyes

Enjoy yourself over here with us.

Caroline

Hello Scott and welcome!

I totally understand the hesitancy with doctors!  I will say that biologics have given a lot of people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis good results.  I'm not one of them however.

And I know psoriasis is supposed to be hereditary, yet I'm the only person in my family to have it, that includes my kids and grandkids.

As Caroline mentions, we are an accepting and fun group (and beware of the sane one!) Snigger

There is a ton of information here too, even though you are familiar with psoriasis and treatments.

Welcome again!

Hello Scott  Welcome to Psoriasis Club

I understand people not being keen the new treatments, but the Bio's gave me my life back around 20 years ago and I've tried most of them with no problems. I basically had no choice but to try them as the psoriatic arthritis had taken over my life to a point I could lift a cup or dress myself, yes I've had a few lapses but I can do things and enjoy life.

But we are all different and at the end of the day it's your body and only you can make the choice.

Enjoy Psoriasis Club, check out the members only boards you will find lot's going on there.

Welcome, Scott!  I'm 59, too (for another week).   Big Grin

Welcome

but " . . . all in all, my skin and I have come to an understanding: It's going to do what it's going to do, and I'm not going to let it ruin my life."  You have a wonderful attitude.   Clap
