1st Cosentyx treatment side effects

Hello everyone, 

I’m new to this forum, but I had a question that I couldn’t find anywhere else on the internet. Last Wednesday I started my 1st injections of Cosentyx. Other than feeling tiredness, I haven’t had any side effects...until today. I was sitting down not doing anything and all of a sudden a feeling of passing out came over me. I laid down and the feeling lingered about  20 mins on and off. Now I feel ok but it really scared me. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this reaction? Another thing I’ve developed since yesterday is lower back pain and diarrhea. I’m pretty upset becuse ive been dealing with Psoriasis since i was about 10 years old and psoriatic arthritis the last 12 years. This is my first time trying Biologics...

More members are using Cosentyx, but I did not hear of those side effects yet. Maybe someone will be able to tell you more.

Are you positive that you don’t have a flu or influenza right at this moment?

Thank you for the reply. It’s something I would have considered if I felt off before hand, but it just came on suddenly. I felt totally fine before it happened.

Hello Ashwicks, as it's your first bio the tiredness is something you will notice. But it will get better as time goes by and your body gets used to it. Basically your body is detecting something is not right after the bio gets into your system and at first may try to fight it, but once it understands that it's a good thing the tiredness will calm down.

I always found Stelara the worst for causing tiredness and put it down to be a large dose (3 months between shots) Cosentyx has never given me any tiredness, not even with the loading dose. But you are loading up and once you get to the maintainance dose (1 month between shots) you should find it gets easier.

As for the diarrhoea it is one of the most common side effects and some of our members have said it has effected them for a short time, but for me it has never been a problem.

Keep an eye on both things and report to your dermatologist if it continues, but don't let it put you off as I feel your body will get used to what is going on and Cosentyx is probably the best bio out there at the moment.

Hi Ashwicks and welcome to the Psoriasis Club.  I'm on Cosentyx and have been for about six months, unfortunately, I cannot be of any help as I haven't noticed any of the side effects you have mentioned, that's not to say they are not Cosentyx related but it might be worthwhile seeing your Doctor as they could have an alternative unrelated cause.

Hello Ashwicks.. yes... I had similar side effects even a few days later. On one 150 mg Cosentyx injection. Can’t imagine if I had the whole dosage amount of 300 mg. How are you feeling now?
