Hello,

How is this accomplished? Does stress really have a significantly negative impact on Psoriasis?

Thanks for the help!

Stress is a difficult thing to handle and it's a very personal thing ...I think it certainly can act as a trigger for the disease and also aggravates it and can cause flare ups, I try not to get to stressed but it's not always easy

One way to relieve stress is to talk here although we are a psoriasis forum, we discuss everything that bothers us and getting it off your chest sometimes puts the worry or anxiety into perspective

There's usually someone here or not far away that will be happy to  talk on any subject and if depressed we have a depression thread you could write in if you wish [Group Specific]

Hey....

I think sometimes it's a circle - you get a psoriasis flare up > you feel stressed, you feel stressed > you get a psoriasis flare up.  I am not sure that stress is the only thing to have a negative impact on psoriasis but no stress is certainly something that you could do without whether you have psoriasis or not to be honest.....

Factors attributed to stress- like alcohol, smoking, diet could also be a catalyst to having a negative impact on psoriasis but also makes stress worse too.

Despite suffering from both stress (from time to time) and psoriasis I am far from being an expert in either but I do know  that there are a few ways to try and cut down and alleviate stress that might help in someway, but would say that each element needs to be tackled/addressed first, be that whatever is causing the stress or trying to get the psoriasis under control in some way.

Welcome  to the club by the way.....  Smile

Yes stress is a big baddy when it comes to psoriasis. You may not even think you are stressed enough, but even small things building up can cause a flare up.

As for managing it. Like Jim siad it's a personal thing, what stress me out may be simple for you, but I may be able to cope with some stress you are dealing with.

It's all about finding something that helps you cope with the stress, and prioretising what is important to worry about and what isn't.

[Group Specific] Is a good way to de-stress whilst you are on-line at Psoriasis Club.  Smile

Stress as Fred says can be a big trigger , it's only one of a long list that can cause problems but as treatments differ for each individual so will what everyone calls stress and what is theirs triggers. I think that stress causes the body to react in all sorts of ways including effecting the immune system which the P is part off and can also cause illness in many ways as it lowers your resistance .
