daughter with psoriasis aged 8

Hi my daughter is 8 and had psoriaisis since june last year,she went to a dermatoligist in december and had been issued with light treatment 3 times per week since then has palmaplanter pustulor psoriasis on feet and hands,guttate,cronic plaque,scalp, she has it everywere including face etc,light treatment has been working on face i must admit and we were sent back early to the consultant as she was getting more psoriasis etc,he said give her another 4 weeks which 3 more to go and if not cleared putting her on systemics which sounds serious for an 8 year ol.also she has special bath,steroid for face,scalp substance,creams,etc about 7 different products to use to,can anyone give me advice on this i just dont know where to turn or speak with as its worrying me,dont know what else to do for her any help or has anyone been in this situation and do you think lights will clear her in time thankyou to all who will read this post

It's always so sad to hear of children with psoriasis, at least you are seeing a dermatologist that's the first step. It will take time to find what works for your daughter.

I don't have much experience with light treatments or children come to that. I hope someone here can give you more information, I will also give this post a Tweet to see if we can get you some more information. and please post away with your questions, if we can help we will.

I do know some people who have had psoriasis as children and talking to them, I have found they tend to cope better than those that get it later in life. I know that doesn't sound good for you or your daughter at the moment, but I always try to look on the positive side.

You're welcome, people who have psoriasis do care and they also understand. we may not have all the answers as it's so difficult to treat, and each case is different. but knowing there are others out there can go a long way. I normally say to people accepting it is the first stage, but how you explain that to a child, I just don't know.

But you, your daughter, and your family are very welcome here.

Hi aquamarine. Welcome to the forum! I have had psoriasis since I was 12 years old. I remember I was on different ointments and creams when I was first diagnose. Don't know about light treatments and childern. Because I never have done light treatments. My derm mention light treatment I a few years ago for the first time to me. Couldn't afford it so I couldn't do it.

Sorry to hear about your child :-( it's not fair!
I first had psoriasis when I was 5 yrs.......mum and dad got me to play outside in the sun as much as possible and it helped (school even let take my top off in breaks to help)
I've had UVB (light therapy) a few times now, it works well for me but remission times can be hit and miss! I suffer with server plaque psoriasis, I wouldn't know how it affects pustular!
All I can say for me is that I'm only clear with high strength drugs or the light therapy.......given the choice I prefer the light as I feel less side affects and more natural.

Could there be any thing that has caused stress to your child? Change of school, difficulties at home, bullying? Stress can cause flares and children do get stressed!

Like I said I was 5 yrs old.......I changed schools around that time!
