Here on behalf of my 10yr old daughter Alisha. She has had psoriasis for 3 years, misdiagnosed for the first 6 months. Did 18mths of prescription medication with no improvement until her torso and scalp were thick with scales. Called a halt when they wanted to put her on Methotrexate and went homeopathic and using creams and shampoos from Holland & Barrett. Considerable improvement, scalp virtually clear and scattering of scales over torso. she had some problems at school with nasty comments but we tackled it head on and literally held a show and talk session where the kids could look and ask her questions! Worked amazingly and they all defend her if anyone says anything negative. She gets a little down now and again but we openly talk about it. Interested to share experiences and tips from other families of young sufferers.thanks

Hi and a big Welcome to the forum I can't offer any advice as I'm far to old and my family fortunately didn't get the dreaded psoriasis or at least it hasn't presented yet..
It sounds to me as if you have a good approach to the situation and I'm sure your daughter feels better having it out in the open at school
I wish you much luck in the future with the condition, and at least there are many drugs being trialed all the time, and hopefully although one doesn't fit all there will be something in the future that will suit her
Meantime trawl through the treatments described on here and remind her she is not alone
Best of luck
Jim

Hello Walrus,
Welcome to the forum, hopefully you find some information and you can always ask if you have specific questions.

Very sensible of you to prevent the doctors giving MTX to your daughter. I can't imagine how bad this can be for a young person in growth were everything in the body is very delicate in growing from child to adult.

I know that somewhere in the Netherlands there is experience on fumarates in use with youngsters, fumarates are much less damaging than many other medication.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hello Walrus4 and Alisha Welcome To Psoriasis Club

Well done for not going for the Methotrexate, it's awful stuff in my opinion. Some however have had good results, but as you have to make the choice for your daughter I would say keep well away from it.

What a great idea of having a show and talk session where the kids could look and ask questions, and a big well done to Alisha for taking part what a brave little person you are. Maybe some adults could also learn from this, the more we talk about it the better it is.

I'm not a huge fan of natural treatments myself, but if it's working then I would say keep going. Just be very careful though Mum as there are so many scams out there that are full of false promises, and will just empty your purse. You may find some other natural treatments in this section that may help Natural Treatments For Psoriasis

I'm sorry but I cant advise about what to go for with someone so young as the only experience I have of children is "I was One" (and according to my wife, still am sometimes) But both of you please feel free to start your own thread about your treatment and it's progress and keep it updated as your input could also help others.

There maybe other threads from members with children and you could try the Using The Search Facility I found this one by aquamarine but unfortunately she has not been back to update. daughter with psoriasis aged 8

Regards.

Fred.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Good choice on avoiding MTX. It's toxic and it's required to undergo a liver biopsy every 4 - 6 years. From my own personal experience, it doesn't work well for hands and scalp.
