Great to see you being treated quickly, RP. I have AS also, but provided you can keep your inflammatory markers down you should not have a problem. If sulfasalazine does not work for you you will hopefully get something like secukinumab as this drug will treat p, psa, and as.

Cheer up. There are really good treatments these days.

Yes c--reactive protein is good indicator of inflammation, and yes I would imagine it is a shock for you. But the good news is that there are treatments today that will soon sort it out. Bill mentioned Cosentyx (secukinumab) it's the best thing that ever happened to me for psoriatic arthritis and evidence is showing if treated at early onset there is a good chance it can give long term clearance.

People never do understand the pain that psoriatic arthritis can give, but those of here with it can fully understand. But you won't end up in a wheelchair I'm 99.9% certain of that, and if you did it would be short lived as like I say there are some great treatments today and even more on the horizon.

Keep your chin up at least you are getting treated and that is important.

As others have said it's good that you have seen a Rheumatologist and are getting treatment. sulfasalizine Can be quite effective and give you relief, however if it does fail, or the side effects are bad. ....That will be the time to talk to the Rheumatologist about biologicals, as Fred and Bill have already pointed you towards Cosentyx I would agree, if you can get on to that there is a good chance you could get long term relief ...if your Rheumatologist disagrees point them at this thread Could Cosentyx be better than first thought for psoriasis and look yourself at Freds thread here Cosentyx for psoriatic arthritis Fred's journey there is good evidence that it will be good for you and I believe that the makers are promoting it heavily in America I've read ...so it's affordable to insurers and many have it with 0% copay

Good luck with the sulfasalizine I hope it works, and I think it's highly unlikely that you will end up in a wheelchair ...there are so many advances being made in the treatment of this disease that the future for you looks bright   Thumb
Jim
