I am a woman 58, just was diagnose of psoriasis... not 100%   , but very close, going to see dermatologist next week..
I am covered by terrible red spots (a lot!) - hands look ugly, legs too, but other parts of the body start to show these red spots... Feel very frustrated..How can i go to south vacation - i look scary for people.

Hello SVP  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

At least you're going to see a dermatologist it's important to get with one as soon as possible as they can work with you to find something that will work for your condition.

I understand you thinking on yourself as looking ugly, but try not to do that as a negative attitude will make it worse. I know it's not easy, but the more you accept it and share with others the easier your journey will be.

You can still go on your vacation, most people probably won't even notice as they are on vacation too. In the very unlikely event that someone does make a nasty comment just tell them that Psoriasis can strike anyone at any time and they could be next.

We don't care what you look like, so just dive on in because we've seen it all before and you will find a friendly bunch who do understand how you feel.

I'm not sure about your health system, but your dermatologist will probably start you off on some creams. But I would say take it slow and follow what they tell you before reading up to much about the different treatments. We have all the information about the various treatments and there is usually someone around using one form or another, so once you know what your dermatologist wants to try just ask us and I'm sure you will get answers.

Regards.

Fred.

Thank you very much for your kind reply!
I hope I find the way to live with this, but this is my first day with the diagnosis, before I was leaning to some kind of allergy, but it is getting worse every day...
Hope the the dermatologist would find a way to ease the condition...
for now - i am very frustrated and look ugly.
Thanks again for making me a bit optimistic
How people work in the office with this? Huh

Hi svp and  Welcome to a place where you are among fellow sufferers that know the feelings you are having about not liking your body and fearing holidays where you want to uncover but dare not ...but my advice would be to arm yourself with knowledge of what could be available to you when you see your dermatologist

Here you are a member of a very friendly club where we all support eachh other and discuss our concerns
So ask any questions you may have and someone will try to answer

Have a read about these treatments then you can have a meaningful discussion with your dermatologist
Oral Treatments For Psoriasis

Although they might ask you to try creams first

See Dovobet And Dovonex (What's the difference ?)
Arm yourself with information but ask as much as you like here

A great way to stay in touch with the latest developments and threads here is to subscribe to the newsletter

Thank you so much!
I will read all the links first, and  I may ask some question after - I don't have any treatment yet, just some cortisone cream, which i need a barrel for all my spots, not the 30 grams of it - and it is totally useless, no ease at all...
And I am so glad I found this forum - i am not alone Wave
Lots of hope to dermatologists I will see next week - they were recommended to me as very high professionals.
Thank you again!

I will need forum support for a while... We on the psoriasis club forum are here for all sufferers, so please stay. Kiss

Having the ugly spots is a concern for all of us. It is hard, i know, in fact, it's tuff and you are always worried by what people think when they stare at you as if you're a leper............well, do what i do, stare back at them and think to yourself, "don't look at me in disgust, you could be next !"
Keep your head up and walk straight past them.

As i said before, on here you will find support & friendship from around the world............and most of all, we have a part of the forum where we de-stress from the world of psoriasis.

You will need support from the forum after meeting our GB  Big Grin

As for going to the office each day. I would say the best thing would be to talk to a work colleague or you boss about it, someone that you know would be on your side. Get it out in the open and everyone will be fine about it. It's difficult to hide on your hands I remember my knuckles used to split and bleed, but you can only put bandages on ten digits for so long before people start asking questions. So I started explaining what it was, and soon found out people were sympathetic towards me.
