Hello all,

I just joined the forum because I'm hoping to find some help and support for dealing with this frustrating condition.  I'm currently breast-feeding so I'm very limited on what I can take. For a while it seemed to get better, but I started getting a period again after giving birth and it seems that every time I get my period the psoriasis get way worse. I don't know if anyone else experiences this. If so I don't know if there's anything I can do to help. Also, does anyone know of any natural treatments I can use while breast-feeding that will not harm the baby?  Why is it that the condition seems to get worse when I get my period?  How can I prevent it from happening?   Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thank you in advance.

Hello Mmull,

Welcome to psoriasisclub,

Concerning your problem I can't provide you with experience myself, as I do not have problems related to my period, but... I know there must be a relation concerning hormones, as there are differences when you are pregnant or not.
There are others on the forum who may step in and give there experiences.

There is a lot to read in the boards for Natural treatments, but I think it may be difficult to find a natural treatment that works but still gives you enough to keep breast feeding your baby.

There may be a number of things you might prevent, and that certainly will not harm, like roasted peanuts for instance. Of course I guess you do not drink wine, and there can be other things to avoid.

Our member alan540 has a whole scheme of things you may try.

Have a good time over here with us. There will certainly soon be others to welcome you and point you in the right direction.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hi Mmull and  Welcome to the club you will find many interesting threads on here about natural treatments for trying to relieve the symptoms and I hope you take time to read the through some of the suggestions. Being a man I have no experience of what is safe when breastfeeding but I don't think you can safely take any of the prescription drugs but you may be able to control the disease with diet, as Caroline has said Alan540 has had great success you can see his thread on this link How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet

Hello Mmull  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

The only natural I could recommend is Coconut Oil, but that's only because I could follow a diet and there are so many expensive scams out there aimed at people wanting a natural cure. You can read more about coconut oil here: Coconut Oil

As for the psoriasis getting worse during your period you may find these worth a read.

I'm not sure if Amanda may be able to offer more as she is a new Mum, I'll send her a PM.

Regards.

hi Mmul and welcome! Unfortunately I can't advise on treatment for breast feeding as I'm formula feeding but I was using steroid creams and coconut oil to maintain mine during pregnancy. How long have you been breast feeding for? It could be flaring due to your body slowly returning to normal post natal. Have you contacted your dermatologist?
