I've had psoriasis on and off for a number of years this particular 'attack' has lasted for 2 years so far and started when I stopped breastfeeding my little girl.

My entire torso is one big patch and my arms and legs are covered in spots of varying size but I try not to let it bother me but today my hairline was really bad and covered in really obvious flakes which after 4 washes with capasal I have finally got rid of.

I was meant to take my daughters to street dance but instead I cracked, burst into tears and my wonderful hubby (who was meant to be working from home) took them instead.

I have an emergency appointment with my gp in an hour to get more cyclosporin as a short term stop gap until my next dermatology appointment which could be any time as the hospital is in chaos cos all the dermatologists left in the same month. Cyclosporin doesn't work well for me but combined with epidermis and dovobet it's better than nothing.

So how many of you have hidden from you children in the bathroom crying....or is it just me? ;-) xxx

Take my advice; I don't use it anyway.

First, welcome!!

So sorry to hear you're having a bad time of it right now. I have had a bout of crying in the bathroom, although it was for arthritis and my inability to get down and clean like I used to be able to do. So, I understand how it is to lock yourself away and have a good (or bad) cry and I also understand the helpless feeling that psoriasis gives us at times too.

I'm really glad you found your way here, it's a good place to just talk and to people who know what it feels like to have this awful disease. It's also a good place to hear of the success of different treatments and to learn about the different ways we all control our psoriasis. I've found it helpful when it comes to discussing things with my dermatologist as well, I feel much better informed.

I sincerely hope you get in to see a dermatologist soon and that your regular doctor will be able to at least give you something in the meantime.

Keep us posted and know you have friends on your side! Smile

Hello mayahandizzysmum  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I've not hidden from children as we don't have any, but if it helps any I have often sobbed my heart out over psoriasis. I'm not the sort to get upset over much, but yes psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis have brought me to tears in the past.

[fred.]And look at me, do I look the sort to blubber?[/fred.]

You sound like you have a good family and your husband is supportive, so I would go the opposite way. Don't hide from your children share with them, I'm sure they would rather feel part of it and try to understand.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Mayahanddizzys mum a big  Welcome to the club. You have come to a great place full of fellow sufferers who know of the desperate feelings... I spent most of my adult life covered up even in hot weather when everyone else was in shorts and yes I've shed bucket loads of tears as psoriasis has crept down my forehead from my scalp.. I have skipped work until it cleared. Not something I'm proud of. But unless you have the disease you can't know
I hope the cyclosporin gives you some relief so you can at least face the family again.
It's a shame you can't get to a dermatologist as there are so many good treatments now available, including the one I'm on which has had me clear for over three years.
Read on here of the many alternatives to cyclosporin they could put you on and when you do get to see a dermatologist you can be armed with the best knowledge available.
Meantime if you have any questions just shout. As you can see there are plenty here to give support and advice
Good luck and thanks for finding us  Bigarm   Thumb

Welcome @mayahandizzysmum

I hear you.
Yes, I have cried so much over the years it's a wonder I didn't drown.
Tears of pain, frustration......I know them well.
Like yourself, I tried to hide it from my child, but it got so severe that it became obvious even to him.
He is 8 now and guess what living with a parent with a chronic condition has done to him.
He's become a thoughtful, compassionate and helpful little man. Smile
Don't hide from your children honey. I'm sure, as Fred has said, that they will be supportive too. You're their Mum and they love you, flaky skin and all. Heart
I'm so glad you have got an emergency appointment and hope that it helps ease your current situation.
Do come back and let us know how you go on.
Xxx

You guys are amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

My little girls call it my "poorly skin" and when I went to the docs we told him we needed more cyclosporin to help make it better :-)

He was fab and gave me repeats for the drugs and has referred me to a different (more efficient) dermatology department and marked it "urgent".

I so try to be strong because I'm so unbelievably fortunate to have my beautiful family, I have heard of P sufferers who have been so crippled with insecurity that they've been unable to get close to people. I just really appreciate finding this group, I needed someone to understand my secret pain. Thank you so much for being supportive xxx

Thanks Jiml, I'm thinking feraderm (?) looks good, I'd prefer to avoid methotrexate from what I've read. Thoughts? Xxx
