Longest time on a successful treatment for psoriasis

I was thinking after Stelara finally giving up on me after almost five years it would be interesting to see if we could find out from our members and guests what has been the longest amount of successful time on one psoriasis treatment, you can vote in the poll above and members can add to this thread if they wish.

For me it's been my latest treatment that has been the most successful, Stelara almost made five years but has let me down a couple of times and now it's failed big time with psoriatic arthritis. So I'm voting 4

It's a difficult one to call my current one is the longest I've had the disease under control to the extent that im happy shedding clothes in summer
Although UV treatment always cleared me but I was clear then it came back as soon as treatment stopped I was on and off that for more years than I can remember ... But compared with current treatment where I stay clear there is no comparison .... So three years clear be four around August on Fumaderm

[/I was on Remicade for over a year and the last 3 treatments I broke out in hives.The first two times I thought it was a reaction to some food I had eaten,Then the last time we figured out it was the Remicade.I had to go to the ER and was given a IV of Steroids,benadryl,pepcid.I was having a hard time breathing and it was pretty scary.My Rheumatologist said it was the Remicade all along.So I was off all biologics for almost 6 months.Three months the Dr wanted me to get it all out of my system.Then it took 3 months to get approved for Enbrel.I have been on Enbrel for 4months now.I am seeing help with the Psoriatic arthritis but the psoriasis not as of yet.So I'll give it some more time and maybe it will eventually help.I use steroid creams and use Cereve moisturizer a couple times a day.And I bathe in Dead Sea Salt 3 times a week.I go to the tanning bed but haven't been in the past couple weeks due to bad weather.I am going to get back on schedule and see if it helps.As I said I feel good with the arthritis part.I won't give up on the skin part.Good comes to those who wait!!!!

Thanks I am looking forward to nice skin sometime in the future.I must say I am lucky to not have had psoriasis real bad like some who have it and some from early on.Mine started getting bad after I was hospitalized with sepsis.When you have a trama that's when all things get worse.I am thankful I survived cause sepsis can kill.We just have to take the good with the bad.Hopefully the good will overcome the bad.I am so thankful for all of my Psoriasis friends here.Don't know what I'd do without you all.

It all depends on how you define successful ,I had 9 years on MTX but it never got the p any better than 70-80% clear though it did work well on the PsA however 2.25 years on Stelara has been the most successful on the P with 99% clearance but not good on the PsA .

Hi Fred,

Very sorry Stelara is not working for you after so many years. Humira is another bio generally used in the states after on has stopped working.

Why do biologics a stop working? That is when the body builds up antigens against the drug. As the drug shuts down one pathway to shut down to the immune system that P. is attacking the body. Ask UR doctor what other bio he recommends.

Many struggle with the same issues and change one bio drug to another.

While using Stelara, or any bio drug you will need frequent blood tests at your doctor's office.

You must remain under the care of a doctor while you are receiving Stelara or any bio product .

I go in next month for a bio drug injection in my finger. Although all fingers are curled and misshapen. Hoping it will open my finger and using my hand again. The drug costs over $3000.00 and that's for one injection. My insurance will be at it limits after only 3 fingers are injected at $3000.00 each. This is my last hope. There are always risks with any bio drug. I know that it may not work but I have faith that it will and I will have use of my right hand again.

So Fred don't give up there are always other bios available that will help you thru the many bio developed for P. & used today. Research for P. is still ongoing with many Pharmacuiducal research companies around the world working on more ways to interrupt the autoimmune system causing many diseases.

Anyone surviving sepsis gets the hero award from me. That is very tough and I am so SORRY that it set off UR P. I hope u get it under control and into remission soon. Many derms who specialize in P. Have much more to offer to help P. than ever before. Mostly light therapy and steroids,moisturizers, and occlusion were the only way . I hope your skin becomes clear & in remission soon. Have you tried laser or excimer laser it works right away killing the small capillary vessels that flow to feed the P. Cells deep in the derm layers?

The different bios target different pathways and proteins.
For psoriatic P. Interleukin 12/23
Stelara (ustekinumab) works by selectively targeting the proteins, or cytokines, interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interleukin 23 (IL-23). Interleukins-12/23 are associated with psoriatic inflammation.

How are they used?
The biologics are taken by injection or by IV infusion. Cimzia, Cosentyx, Enbrel, Humira and Simponi are injected in the legs, abdomen or arms, typically by the individual with psoriatic disease or a family member. Stelara is administered as a subcutaneous injection by a health care provider. Remicade is given through IV infusion in a doctor’s office or infusion center. Biologics are prescribed for individuals with moderate to severe cases of plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. They are a viable option for those who have not responded to or have experienced harmful side effects from other treatments. Studies show that TNF-alpha blockers help reduce the progression of joint damage in psoriatic arthritis.

Also newly approved Apremilast works by regulating the inflammatory network within the body's cells. It targets an enzyme known as phosphodiesterase 4, or PDE4, which promotes the production of pro-inflammatory messengers and decreases the production of anti-inflammatory messengers within cells. Better regulating PDE4 can help reduce inflammation in skin and joints.

The more we learn the more we understand this disease. Many are used off label for other autoimmune diseases.

All honestly,  I am glad I took Stelara. It's a great drug. It's the only drug that that brought me to clinical remission for psoriasis. All great things come to end. Over the last 6 months my arthritis has been getting worse and I started getting some psoriasis patches.  I know it didn't fail me as bad Fred, but decided to move on.

I hate psoriasis, but  I think I hate PsA worse.
