Hi all, just joined the forum! Have been reading some of the posts and just have a question I hope ye can help me with. Just started fumaderm this month. My dermatologist has only given me a one month prescription and has then requested for me to see him again one month in. Can anyone tell me if I need to see him every month for a check up and my prescription or will I eventually get to start seeing him less?? Thanks

Hi Lilkell
A very warm  Welcome  to the forum I hope you will have a good experience here, as we are all psoriasis sufferers and are always ready to share our experiences of the disease and the various treatments so have a good look around and if you have a question just shout we do have a good bunch of members and an active off topic section where we can chat about almost anything
With regard to your question im guessing you have been given a prescription for Fumaderm initial to get your body prepared for the full strength tablets
I would think that to begin they are going to keep an eye on your reaction to the drug and your blood levels.
I would also think after a month you will get a prescription then for possibly 3 months supply and the dermatologist will probably not need to see you for three months ( well that's how it went for me) you will need monthly blood tests to check on your levels and they may need to see you to adjust the dose .
You may well get some side effects most do ...some get them worse than others ... Stay in touch with us
And we will, advise of ways to deal with the side effects
It's worth the side effects to get clearance believe me.... I have never been clearer for so long in all my adult life......  in my mind Fumaderm is a wonder drug
Good luck I hope this helps
Jim

Thanks Jim. That's great to hear, the medication is expensive enough nevermind monthly consultant visits also! Have received the drugs payment scheme card though so that helps. Over two weeks on it at the moment so I will keep ye updated on my progress. Three monthly prescriptions would be great, so hopefully that is what I will get next time I see him. Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

Welcome Lilkell.Fumaderm was a life changer for me and as Jim said you may get some side affects
but stick with it they will stop.this is my second time on them first time was back in 2002 and i came off them
in 2011 100% clear all that time.it started to come back very slow about a year ago.
anyway back then my appointments were every 3 months then it changed to every 6.
this time around i am seeing the clinical nurse every month for blood and urine tests and 3 months
for the dermatologist.they are also increasing the dose for me very slowly not sure if its because i had them
before or that is how they do it now.

Hi Phil yes the dosing for Fumaderm is a slow build up then level of and reduce until it starts to be less effective and then up one tablet and that's your dose
Here's a link to Guys hospital where they have it all chapter and verse

Yes Jim that was the dosage last time i was on them.
they worked so well for me last time i only got up to 3 blue tablets a day.
then 2 blue tablets a day for quite a while and finally 2 low dose a day for a good number of years.
this time i am on week 7 and still on 3 low dose tablets.
like i said maybe because i have been on them before they are taking it slow this time.
although i live by the sea in West Sussex i am under Prof. Barker at Guy's hospital
and have to go there even to see the nurse infact i am back to see the nurse next week.

Phil

That's a fair trip for you phil ... I'm lucky my hospital is around 5 miles from my house in Norwich
They are probably hoping you will respond on the low dose and giving it time to kick in
I hope it's starting to work again and you will be clear soon
