Hi I am new to Fumaderm (I started on 01.04.14) for those of you unlucky enough to experience any of the side effects how long was it before they started? I'm wondering if my imagination has gone into overdrive!!

Hi and welcome to the forum nice to have a Norfolk girl on board
![]() Fumaderm you should have started with Fumaderm initial for 4 weeks I seem to remember. What I do is take them with my meals then flush them down with plenty of fluid should be water but often with me it's something a bit stronger Side effects you will probably get some stomach cramps ( I found the more I drank the less cramps I got. You will get hot flushes. I still get the occasional one about once a week starting at the head and working down my body If you can bear the side effects at first,...... they ease up the longer you are on it. After your Fumaderm initial run out you will be put on full strength tablets The effects on my psoriasis are nothing less than spectacular. I only have a couple of marks on my skin now. More later glad you posted. Hope to see more

I'm wondering if my imagination has gone into overdrive!! Hi Looby, Welcome to the Forum. It may be smart to introduce yourself in the Welcome part of the forum, so we know who you are and how you found the forum. I am not on Fumaderm, but on Psorinovo, which has the same active substance dimethyfumarate. Difference is that Psorinovo is stomach resistant and slow release. Therefore i never have stomach problems. Side effects for me started immediately with the lowest concentration. With Psor.. the schedule is to go up 30 mg/day each week. So first week 30 mg/day, second 60 mg/day, etc I am now on 5x 120mg/day, which seems apparently the right dose for me. I know people with lots higher doses. Side effect in the first weeks were the flushes. Harmless but bit weard. It starts with a tickling in your head, you become utterly read, first the head and than all down your body. It takes about 20-30 minutes to finish and occurs about 1 time a day. Second side effect, with higher doses, may be a bit of unstable intestines. No real problem to my opinion. My skin is totally clear and my PsA is very well under control. Recently I read that an interesting side effect is that the flushes that appear with using DMF, seem to also be very good for Meunieres disease. That is a disease of your stability organ in your ears. The effect of the flushes, a much better blood transfer to the very tiny bloodvessels (?) , appeared to be very healing for this specific patient who also had psoriasis. Caroline

Hi Looby,
The pertinent question is "When will the side effects abate?". For me it was a couple of months, with the first couple of weeks at full strength the worst. I take DMF with a meal, and the more food the better. Also, due to the drug regulations in Australia the only way I can get DMF is by importing the raw material. This form is tougher going but well worth the side effects. Good luck. Jim and Caroline seem to have had pretty spectacular results along with others on the forum, and I have seen my PASI drop from 15-20 to around 1 currently. After over 15 months of treatment the DMF is still very effective and I am hopeful of further improvement. I look forward to reading about your progress. Cheers, Bill

Hello Looby;
Great news to hear you have embarked on medication for your Psoriasis with Fumaderm. If you follow the recommended prescription starting with Initial dosage for three weeks followed by step-up program with 120 mg. Fumaderm, maintain the peak dosage for as long as you need to achieve positive results and then gradually decrease to see where you need to be to stay clear, you should experience good tolerable results. The program allows your system to build up a tolerance or minimize side effects from Fumaderm such as gastrointestinal discomfort. After suffering chronic Psoriasis for approx. 30 years, trying every possible control aside from biologics, Fumaderm has been a miracle drug for me. I am totally clear, on a 1x120 mg daily maintenance dosage for the last +3 years. I am afraid to back off further in fear that my Psoriasis may come back so I am quite content to maintain the maintenance dosage with no side effects whatsoever. Meanwhile, I am monitored by a Doctor for blood platelet level. So my recommendation to you is stay with it, you may experience some discomfort from time to time, "Tums" do help, but from my experience, you will be pleased with the results in the end. Hi Looby Lou thanks for the reply ...it's great to know you have been on Fumaderm for 3 years now and you are still clear ....I know you glad a hard time at the start of treatment with awful nausea etc ....
I was wondering if after 3 years you experience any side effects or like me get the occasional flush Jim |
