Fumaderm and hormone injections

Added a bit to my journal tonight but thought I would put some here in case anyone wanted to comment
Or it may be something a new member might find useful

I'm due my next 3monthly hormone injection next week but my prostate specific antigen reading is too low to measure so the cancer has been put well back

The good news is there's no change in my lymphocyte count 1.25  and liver and kidneys still functioning well
A bit of flaking from my scalp, I'm noticing a fine dust on the inside of my glasses, I can't see where from but I'm guessing it my eyebrows... Really not a worry to me I can dab a bit of dovobet gel, sparingly if it gets worse.

More worrying is constant pain in my left shoulder, my fingers are a bit sore when I bend them, my feet are very painful when I get out of bed or stand up after sitting for a while
I'm hoping it's not the start of psoriatic arthritis

My finger nails are showing lines, pitting and splitting, and one thumb nail is lifting from the bed







They have always had the lines on and the split thumb nail never grows out
But now with the other thumb nail beginning to lift from the bed, I have to admit I'm getting a bit nervous that the Fumaderm may not be behaving
I have a dermatology appointment on December 4th so I will see what he has to say and see if my lymphocytes are better than 1.25, even if they are static. I may ask to increase the dose, to see if it eases my joints, we know it should work for PsA although it isnt prescribed for it.

Well Jim, the signals on your nails do not look good.
And also the sore fingers and feet point towards PsA. Still you can increase the Fumaderm and see what happens, certainly as your readings are still fine, you can increase easily.
Of course I hope for you it is not the expression of PsA but it is very well know that a percentage of psoriasis sufferers will get it.
Luckily I know a forum with very nice people who will help you with your sorrow

O, forgotten to tell you.
Keep on practicing your fingers and feet.
Keep them flexible with regular movement, but use no load on them.

O, do they hurt extra when the pressure on your limbs is axial ? So in a 90 degree corner?

You might try to keep your shoulder also flexible with no load movements.

I've just been reading your journal Jim and well done for keeping it up to date. It's good that you are also sharing with our guests too as someone out there may get some comfort from it. Hats off to you mate.  

As you know I have followed your progress and it gives me a lift hearing that things are still going in the right direction. You also know me being me there is often a but!

And looking at those images and reading your words, it does sound to me like it could be the onset of psoriatic arthritis. As for if an increase in Fumaderm will work .................................... well I think you know where I'm going on this one.  

You know it should work for psoriatic arthritis but it's not prescribed for it (your words) my words are it's just good enough for psoriasis and that is why it's not prescribed for psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is something that some people can live with in it's mild form for a long time (I did) but when it bites hard I'm not convinced that Fumaderm can cope with the wrath of full blown psoriatic arthritis so that is why it is not prescribed.

I know you are big fan of Fumaderm and so you should be as it's been very good to you, but sometimes we have to look at something else. Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis are both annoying but give me flaky skin any day over not being able to move. I  do hope I'm wrong and all is well, but I would mention your thoughts to your dermatologist at your next appointment just to see what they think.

Fred decides it's time to run before the DMF gang get here and hit this thread with their walking talking proof that it does help psoriatic arthritis and you should keep with it and try increasing your dose. 

Talk over this with your dermatologist is the best advice I could give you Jim.

Thank you I will keep my fingers flexing with plenty of exercise and I only have pain in my feet when I'm rested but the shoulder is always sore

Thanks Fred I have an open mind and value any words of wisdom offered me.
I will try to contain it if I can with the Fumaderm, but I'm a realist and know nothing goes on working for ever .
But I will cross that bridge when and if I get to it .

I consider this as utter nonsense  

The non prescription is only due to a lack of knowledge of the average dermatologist.
