I have quick question I thought someone might be able to answer. I am vitamin B12/folic deficient (possible anemia). I was wondering if it’s a cause of PsA. Anyone have any ideas? I know that drugs such as MTX can cause this problem, but it’s been years since I took MTX. I am on Celebrex, which may also cause this issue, but my doctor told me it takes years to develop this with that drug.

Approximately 10-20% of those with psoriasis may develop Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) but I've never heard of B12/folic deficient or anemia being the cause.

I could be wrong but I think you either get PsA or you don't. Obviously you need to have Psoriasis to get it, but as for a cause I don't think there is one and it's just bad luck if you fall into the 10-20% that do.

Maybe someone else knows more and will post. Smile

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I was clear with my first post. There is a lot of research that suggest a positive correlation between inflammatory arthritis and vitamin B12 deficiency. However, it's typically associated with the medicine we take (MTX and NSAIDs). My dermatologist says it's not the Stelara and more than likely not the Celebrex. My question is, could the vitamin B12 deficientcy be linked to me having PsA (not the cause)? Anyone else have this issue?

Oh I'm with you now. Doh

Sorry mate I don't know, but I hope someone will. Or if you do find anything please update as it could help others. Thumb

The cutting edge stuff presently IMO is study of the methylation system, which are intricately tied into both detox and immune/autoimmune. And methylation is more dependent on B12 and folate than anything so far as I can gather.

PsA can easily be removed in my experience via diet change - tho most people don't want to make the changes. Took me about a year to eliminate a very severe case, and bring my ESR down from 43 to 1.

As with all chronic illness, medicine is of no use other than to manage symptoms for the rest of one's life.

Well you can ask questions if you like Caroline.

I have no qualifications, but I have read up a bit on methylation, & I have cured psoriatic arthritis (spondylitis to be exact). First step there was to fire my doctor & specialist: arthritis is not a field rheumatologists understand.

Also I implemented a methylation fix that I barely understand, but was at least smart enough to try (taking methyl-folate), last year. It got me out of bed and fully functioning again, nearly overnight. I was sick from two years of chelating mercury, which was reacting with thiol-containing foods I was eating.

I thought I would make a update to this thread. About the time I opened this thread I stopped taking the celebrex because I was vomiting acid in the morning. Anyways, my blood work came back in the exceptable range except for my CRP (still high). So believe the celebrex was the culprit here.

My rhumey wants me to start the celebrex again with a reducer and see what happens in six weeks. Not sure if I want to, but it helps with the hip.

What do you mean by a reducer, another drug to combat the feeling you get with celebrex ?
