Evening all, still new to forum chatting but here goes

I have been prescribed exorex tar lotion and dovobet gel in the past and these haven't really worked for me

My pseriosis come up in round patches which have gradually got larger. It is quite stubborn and it only appeared to clear up a little after spending a week at the Red Sea.
Obviously I don't really want to move to Egypt but I would love to find a gel or lotion which you guys believe really does make a difference

I think many of us will agree it is a case of trial and error with finding something that can offer relief that's one f the wonders of psoriasis

It might be worth having a look on the natural/alternative board

I'm currently using epaderm moisture cream from GP and olive oil and sometimes add a drop of lavender oil in too

One tip to keep in mind, I will keep on stressing it, psoriasis is an immune disease expressing on the skin or in your fingers and feet (PsA).
So everything you do to your skin is only attacking the outer symptoms, and will not reach the real cause, your immune system.
That is why psoriasis will always come back and is why medication, living style, herbs, etc sometimes help without even touching the skin.

I would love to find a gel or lotion which you guys believe really does make a difference.

Unfortunately what works for some may not work for others, and what does work one day may suddenly stop working. Or worse still some things will work, but then actually make psoriasis worse. Dovobet is one of those products that I found can make it worse if you suddenly stop using it.

Supposedly the top 4 things that make psoriasis worse are:

• Stress
  
• Overweight
  
• Alcohol
  
• Tobacco
  

And the top 4 things that can help are:

• Positive attitude
  
• Sunshine
  
• Drinking plenty of water
  
• Keeping skin moisturised
  

It's a bit hit and miss till you find what works for you, and that is where a dermatologist comes in. They will work with you to find the best treatment, though like Caroline said it's an Immune problem and some swear by working from the inside.

For me I couldn't go through diets, colonic irrigation (love those words), drinking green juice, regular exercise, etc. Lifes to short and I want something that helps me live a happy life with minimal input on my part.

Have a good read through some of the threads both in Prescribed and Natural and have a go on what you think is best, If you believe in it, it could just work. (Placebo Effect)

One big peace of advice I always give people though, is be very careful of the scams. Making people with psoriasis part with there cash is a huge business, and if you go for the so called cures or potions you will be throwing your money down the drain. Most of them are nothing more than a Diet, Life style change, and very expensive creams that are nothing but moisturiser. Check out my threads in Natural Treatments to see what I mean.

Be an active member here and talk with others, ask questions, share your thoughts on treatments, see a dermatologist, and hopefully one day you will find something that works for you.

But in the meantime you can search for motorcycle riders in the Off Topic section and report them for speeding.

Hi Giacy,

I currently use Dovonex and Dovobet on alternate days, I also moisturise with 100% Aloe Vera twice daily and have been using a UVB bed that was kindly lent to me by a colleague of my hubby's.

After Baths and showers I use an emolient (have used baby oil in the past) on my wet skin which helps to retain moisture.

I can't use coal tar based treatments as I am allergic to PPD (found in hair dyes) which is derived from coal tar and it brings me out in a horrible rash.

Some local salons may have UVB beds... If the sunlight helped when you were in Egypt then maybe this would be something to look into... Just be conscious of the amount of time spent on the beds and read up on UV types and skin cancers (UVB is a whole lot safer than UVA but most beds will have a mix of tubes).

I'm presently using the Chinese immune-quietening herb astragalus for nephritis - which it is bringing under control very nicely. (Test numbers way down in 2 months.)

As both nephritis & psoriasis are autoimmune, I'll see what astragalus does for the psoriasis. Nothing much so far - but herbs are slow, & the psoriasis has been there 40 years.

I did 2 weeks at the Red Sea 2 years ago and found it helped alot, last year I did 2 wks in the Caribbean and found that helped too.
I find that no creams work for me, especially after being on MTX last year.
I am now going back to the hospital in 2 weeks to demand more treatment, and I want to try Bio's next, so I am going armed with lots of info.
