As I have been here a while now and my journal about Fumaderm and hormone injections is no longer relevant. As I'm clear of prostate cancer and no longer have the awful hormone injections that kept the prostate cancer under control Fumaderm and hormone injections

So I will begin my continued journey here

2 weeks ago I was invited to have an MRI scan on my brain as there we're worries that Fumaderm had been linked to cases of PML ...I told my dermatologist that my lymphocyte levels hadn't been low enough to allow any opportunistic infections to take hold....he felt that it would be wise

So today I had my 3 monthly meeting with the Dermatologist who gave me the good news that my brain scan showed no abnormalities ( I know it's hard to believe)
Also got my blood results with my lymphocyte count at 1.15 ( normal is between 1and 3 )
Kidney and liver function was normal

I have now been on Fumaderm 5 years and have found it to be a life changer for me I barely know I have psoriasis now apart from a stubborn spot on my left elbow.
I am taking 5 Fumaderm tablets a day  3 in the morning with my breakfast and 2 with my evening meal. Always with plenty of fluids .

I found 4 tablets keep my psoriasis under control, but I have increased to five a day to help control the psoriatic arthritis which it seems to be keeping it away as my sore fingers and feet are almost normal with hardly any pain

I will keep this thread updated with my continued journey and hope to keep reporting no change

Good idea Jim. As you are clear from the prostate cancer it will help you forget about it by having a new thread.

I'm following. Oh and good news that the MRI was clear, at least you ow know.

Long may Fumaderm work for you, it has been very good to you.

Thanks Fred yes it seemed strange keeping the old thread going and this one links back to it in case anyone's interested

Amazingly good levels Jim!!
1.15 is really good, mine were always lower.

Hope it will stay working for you for a long time, and I know it has that potential.

Bloody good that you have beaten prostate cancer, Jim, and the way your response to DMF has been you seem likely to keep responding for a very long time. As Caroline points out you have an excellent lymphocyte count, and you are also quick to vary your dose according to changes in your disease activity.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks  Bill, I think I'm lucky that my dermatologist has been flexible with me and together we are monitoring my progress ..I'm convinced that I can keep tweaking my dose to keep it under control .

The dermatologist did tell me that he had been told that Fumaderm is likely to be licenced here in England soon so it will be easier for dermatologists to prescribe

At the moment it is easier to prescribe biological drugs as they can do that by simply writing a prescription as they are licenced..... whereas to prescribe Fumaderm it involves a lot of paperwork putting forward a case to a committee for approval. He says that there are too many pressures on dermatologists time to do this and the easy option is to just write a prescription for a licenced drug

Without getting too political  Whistle

I wonder how that will work after Brexit? The reason I ask is that as far as I know Fumaderm is made in Germany and we don't yet know the deals that can be done post brexit. Hopefully they will get it sorted before Brexit.
