Thought this would be appropriate place for this question.

I have a problem, my psoriasis. It's reasonably bad. I have "paint brush psoriasis" covering my whole body with the plaque psoriasis on knees, elbows and scalp. I moisturise all the time probably 4-5 times a day with phototherapy treatment starting in a few days. My problem/question is;

The constant persistent f******g shitting ITCHING! ITCHING! ITCHING!!! To the point it's driving me wild, my psoriasis is so F'ing sore anyway but scratching that itch is all I can do, to the point I make myself bleed under the 'scab' so to speak..... I know this makes it worse.

Any ideas or known cures for itch relief would be very much appreciated before this happens

Hopefully it will start to ease tomorrow when you start your treatment, what are you using to moisturise, I use double base gel. I have used aqueous cream as we'll both worked for me to ease the itching. it doesn't help banging your head on the wall

Here in the US, I use Benadryl when ever possible. At night, on my legs, I use a topological steroid and wrap then in saran wrap to prevent myself from itching them until I bleed. I know steroids may be out the question because of the UV. I try not taking too many showers and when I do, I take them as cold as possible.

What moisturiser are you using? I ask as some contain things that can make some people itch.

For a quick fix try ICE either a bag of frozen peas or Ice wrapped in a cloth.

As Sue keep moisturiser in the fridge, As Mataribot cool showers only, As Jim don't bang your head against the wall. (He's not joking, stress will make it worse)

But you must try to stop scratching, it's ok to soften the plaques and gently peel them away as long as you put loads of moisturiser on but scratching the flakes to bleeding point will create vicious circle (yes I know it feels good at the time, but believe me you are not helping)

It's called Guttate psoriasis (like it's been flicked on body by a paint brush) . Also gone with an anti itch cream from my dermatologist today, works a treat

so they fried you today, it's not to bad is it. It's like having a sunbed I hope it will work for you. Are you on 3 sessions a week ? With increasing time

Yes I'm on 3 times a week, half way through my 3rd week, on 1min 8secs today. Still no improvement really though.

When you say no improvement are the plaques subsiding or are you still red and itching. you must be half way through your treatment now? I am hoping it works for you as your time increases .

Hang in there with the phototherapy, I also am receiving it. Really kicked in once I was over the 2mins! Like you I suffer terribly with the itching but have not itched in the past fortnight. I am on my 20th session with only a few more to go and the difference is amazing. I'm sure you've heard it all before but moisturizing is the key. I swear by epiderm, I wash with it, I moisturizer with it, I do not use any shower gels or soap. I also use diprobase during the day as it rubs in quick and doesn't ruin my clothes. At night I am one big grease ball, the trick is to lay it on thick and rub in! Yes you can use steroid ointments with phototherapy, I continue to use diprosalic, dermovate, bentnovate, silkis etc.. and am in fact encouraged to do so by hospital. I can't promise the phototherapy will work but don't give in. If it hasn't improved by the end of your sessions, ask to see the consultant again, before you are discharged as he/she may well have more in their bag of tricks that can help.
