Hi Bill,

Very inconvenient those shingles, I had to look it up and we call it Gordelroos.
Don’t know about the coincidence, but my mum had it also last two weeks, very painful I understand from her.
She heard from her doctor (GP) that shingles is a so called herpes virus and a revival of the chicken pox. Somehow the virus seems to stay in your system and at an inconvenient situation it can revive again.

Good luck with it.

And by the way, your lymphocyte counts are excellent !!

Cheers,
Caroline

Thanks Jim,

I have no idea how the lymphocytes have varied since my last test, although the infection has likely caused an increase. With the infection ended I have resumed taking DMF to control the psoriasis, which has changed little since the pause. I am hoping the DMF might also help with the sensory nerve damage I suffered.

Cheers

Hi Caroline,

DMF can kill memory cells, so it may have the ability to negate acquired immunity, either from vaccines or infections. Getting booster shots might be a consideration for DMF users, especially long termers.

Cheers

I've always had a bad short term memory Bill even before I started DMF so I hope it doesn't affect memory too badly. Is it a proven fact if so it's a bit worrying

Good luck Bill, I hope you get past the shingles symptoms soon. I know it can last a long time. Confused

Where did you get that information Bill?
And ... what do you consider as a booster shot?

If so, then I wonder if the average dermatologist knows about it.

Thanks Kat. I know it can be a tough road, especially as I delayed starting anti-virals.

Hi Caroline,

Yes, DMF is toxic to memory cells. You can find specific research on line (e.g. Dimethyl Fumarate Selectively Reduces Memory T Cells and Shifts the Balance between Th1/Th17 and Th2 in Multiple Sclerosis Patients)
. That is one way it helps with psoriasis, but it can have unpleasant consequences.

Cheers

And a booster shot is another name for a repeat dose of a vaccine.
