Saw my Derm today. He wanted to do light box but copayments are cost prohibitive for me. He prescribed Soriatane and wants to see me in a month. Told me to continue with Topicals.
Just wondering if anyone here has tried this treatment and had success ?
Oh and the Derm had no comment when I asked him if he felt diet played a role in repairing immune system. But he doesn't make any $ if this clears up with improved diet ;-)

He confirmed I have a severe case of plaque and guttate psoriasis. I left his office content w his diagnosis and more determined than ever to completely eliminate all sugar, gluten, caffeine and alcohol for 90 days.

You are what you eat and toxins are permeating my intestinal wall and being absorbed by my blood (cropping up on my skin) instead of being eliminated by my body.

Just my opinion.

I think Mataribot has used Soriatane he may know more.

Dermatologists will Never agree with a diet being the problem as it's not in their interest not only money wise, but there is no medical conclusive proof that a diet can help and it's not their skill set.

But you now have a confirmed diagnoses, so you can now get on with it in which ever direction you choose to take. Wink

Yes, I used it off and on for year. Works well for plaque, at least for me. It took about two months to see result. Initially, you may fill itchy (common issue). The drug may cause your colesterol to go up a bit. Your doctor should talk to you about the pregnancy bit, so I will skip it. You shouldn't take any supplements with vitamin A, it caused overdose systems with me. Over all, it's not a bad drug. Oh, and no alcoholic beverages while on Soritane.

One last note, if you have joint problems I would at least talk to your dermatologist about it. Soritane does nothing for inflammatory arthritis - at least not for me.

And yes, the generic for Soritane is acetretin

Happy to report that I'm not suffering from "bleeding eyeballs" after 1st dose. That is actually listed as one of the side effects in the literature the pharmacy gave me. Crazy!

It's pretty pink on my forehead. I think the steroids the gave me at the hospital on Friday helped a lot.
