As you will know at Psoriasis Club our members have been kept updated about using their treatments with the threat of covid.

But now there is a vaccine on the horizon I was wondering how many of you will be happy to give the new vaccines a try, so let's have a poll. This is open to members and guests, members usernames will not be shown but you are welcome to comment if you wish.

Personally I won't be taking it for two reasons.

#1 I have never had a vaccine against a virus and prefer my body to do the fighting.

#2 It's just a bit too quick for my liking.

Edit: I have changed from a No to a Not Sure after reading about "Caroline Coster, from Bedford UK" Confused

I will be taking it but I would like to see more evidence from trials before I do.

I usually try to avoid needles if I can!

Last vaccines I had were the necessary ones prior to starting biologics.  Prior to that was 32 years ago!

Have to think about it and see how it goes with the first few rounds

Yes, I will get one.

My reasoning is just playing the odds.

From my understanding, I tick a lot of items that make me risky when it comes to covid so should I get infected, there is a better chance than most that I would have it bad (although never know for certain of course, I could be one of the lucky ones but the odds point the other direction for me) And bad cases of covid can lead to death.

As far as vaccines, I look at them a lot like medicines, yes there can be side effects and long term effects and things we may not know for many years. But, just like I was willing to try biologics to help my system, I see vaccines in the same way, as something that can help. It can give my immune system a boost and I think that for me that's a good thing.

So that's my reasons. I think the fear of whether or not I could survive covid is greater than the fear of a new vaccine.

Yes I’ll be getting one. I was reticent to take drugs or injections but since about 2012 and my psoriasis flaring up, I’ve tried loads of things from the hospital, and I think this vaccine is a lot less worrying than some of them.

On balance though, the very small risk of a side effect (which they cannot rule out) is lower than the risk of catching covid and getting very ill / dying / getting lasting lung damage etc.

But there’s another reason to take it - ‘the greater good’ otherwise known as the more people that take it the better chance covid will have nowhere to go.

I really hate the way things are now, and I find wearing a mask more irritating each time I do it, not less. So I may be slightly impatient to get ‘back to normal’..

I will be getting one too.

Normally I do not go for an influenza vaccine, but this Covid I think is way more dangerous.

Because of the pandemic, I did enhance my knowledge on the working of a vaccine and the different types of vaccines. Even yesterday evening I followed a webinar on it with explanation of experts and with representants of science and pharmacy available.

The thing a vaccine does is nothing more that what the virus also does, but then safer. The vaccine in fact shows the "signature" of the virus to the immune system, the immune system then reacts by making anti-bodies for it, and those antibodies then are able to connect to the virus when it appears in your body. The anti bodies make it possible for the immune system to recognise the virus, attach to it, and signal the killer T-cells to connect and get rid of the virus. Building up this immune respons will cost a few days.
So it prepares the body for the infection, so that it will react immediately after a contamination with the virus.

If without a vaccine, the body will react in the same way. When contaminated, the immunesystem will see the intruder, will create anti-bodies, and will call the T-cells, this will cost a few days, depending on the effectiveness of your immunesystem and the availability of necessary substances to build up the adequate respons.
But... in the mean time the virus that has entered will replicate and it will be a race between the immune system and the effects of the virus. Mostly but not always the immune system wins in the end. Having an strong immune system, vitamins available, and a few other elements available, helps in this response. Some medicines, like HCQ, help in the beginning to prohibit the rapid replication of the virus and this buys time for the immune response, and some biologicals also prohibit the cytokine storm that may appear as a reaction of the body to the virus and again will buy time for the immune system and the T-cells to come up with the adequate respons. Finally it is always the immune system itself that conquers the virus, never it is the medication.

The purpose of the vaccine is to have this immune reaction as fast as possible and kill the virus as it just has entered, thus preventing further spread in and outside of the body.

Agree. I will be getting vaccinated. Critical care treatments have been developed, but will only reduce mortality by 75% and wont stop the risk of viral outbreaks and spread. Vaccination holds the promise of protecting over 90% of recipients and has the potential to eliminate covid all together. With a few exceptions I believe vaccination should be a choice as enforcement only fans the flames of conspiracy theorists: Enough people will very likely choose to vaccinate to eliminate the virus.

Yes I'll be having it for all the above reasons and having my wife with a compromised immune system I feel I should have it and the more that have it on the planet the more likely we are to wipe it out in the same way that vaccines got almost rid of other viruses like polio

I think I will be getting it........ providing the Dermy Doc says it will be ok with the meds (immuno surpressors).

My mum is getting the Pfizer jab next Tuesday.

You'll have to tell us how she said it went.  (Edit: And since a normal response might be "I don't "have" to tell you anything  Tongue perhaps I should word it nicer....)

Please keep us updated if she mentions how it went for her.  (Better?  Big Grin )

I really hope this is the answer to getting the world back to some degree of normal.
