My boy has been using the steriod creams for months now. Very sparingly and we stop or slow down now and then but its the only option we have been given until now.
They are designed to be used for a 4 week period. So read into that what you will.
I bet 90% of our members using steroid cream/sprays don't use them as the manufacturers intended.
Months in my personal opinion is not good if using daily, but a little bit now and then to get back on top of things is fine.
I'm not in your position as I don't have children, but steroid creams/sprays are never going to work and will only get it down for a while. They are not something I would be happy using long term on anyone let alone a child if I had one, but again it's only my opinion.
Oh and I also think you should be weaned off them and not suddenly stop as that can make the psoriasis flare up.
