Thank you as always. Trying to stay positive. Saw ENT guy who said perforated ear drum so hearing loss caused by that. See him again in two weeks. Just thinking that things can only get better!! The ENT man also suggested new research shows tonsillectomy  can get rid of guttate psoriasis (don' think I have that) but interesting.

Ooooh no wonder your ear is sore ... I hope it heals soon for you, I can understand it’s hard to stay positive but it is good for you if you can  

As for a tonsillectomy getting rid of guttate Psoriasis I hadn’t heard that before. Although it is known that strep throat can trigger Psoriasis .....

You mentioned your Dermy was thinking of upping your dose to see if it will kickstart the clearance. What is he thinking of upping it to?? As for the interminable itch, have you tried taking an oral antihystamine? I found the local supermarket own label non drowsy quite effective but being me I could only take them at night coz they knock me out   .

Hi Johnb. I'e had my tonsils out as a child too but the ENT doctor said they will have some regrowth. Anyway I'm going to ask the dermatologist about it although I don' think I have guttate psoriasis but it'

 do take piriton at night for the itch....I seem to be getting immune to it though or the itch is getting worse! Does acitretin make yoh more itchy in your experience?
I' seeing the ENT doctor again in two weeks to see if my ear drum is healing itself or needs surgical repair just hoping my hearing will be ok after that as I'm getting sick of hearing my own voice in my left ear and not much else. Although my family all say now I can share their pain ...

I would try swapping from piriton to a non drowsy type as they are different in their make up, like you say your body does get used to medication and starts to ignore it after a while. Mine isn't really an itch as such, it is more like my nerve ends are being gently fried/ electrocuted it is a really weird experience. I did have the itch before Acitretin but very infrequently, with it probably 5 or 6 times a month and I'm pretty certain the odd glass of pop exacerbates it. I just can't decide which variety or quantity. Needs more research. 
If you are generally fit and healthy and don't go prodding around in your ear it should realise itself. Good luck with it.
Sounds like you do have good family support around you though

Thanks. I'm finding the itchiness really difficult and need an antihistamine to cause drowsiness or else I only get about four or five hours sleep in total. I haven't really been drinking...but I think chocolate might be making it worse. No alcohol and no chocolate...could things get much worse? 
Hoping the Aciteretin improves my face a bit more at the current dose as don't fancy increasing it with potentially worse side effects 

You could ask your doctor if there’s a stronger antihistamine tablet you can have. My wife has one as she gets very itchy when on her dialysis machine and the ones she has do work where piriton didn’t
