Hi everyone. My name is Kath. I have had psoriasis since I was 4. I am 57 so basically all of my life. However, for the first time I have inverse psoriasis and I am really struggling.

Sorry, this may be too much information but it is under my boobs, in the fold of skin under my stomach, at the top of my bottom and even in my belly button. It is very red, inflamed and wet.

I hate steroid cream but am trying it. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what had helped them.

Don't you worry about too much information, you will find most of our members have had psoriasis is some very odd places. In fact we have one member that regularly shows us pictures we all have to grab our sunglasses at. *You won't see those images till you have made 10 posts, but trust me they are there.

I've not had inverse and you have my sympathy. Are you seeing a dermatologist?

I'm not seeing a dermatologist. I didn't even see a GP this time just a nursing practitioner. She prescribed me a steroid cream that I had for plaque psoriasis in 2010.

To be honest, I usually treat with goats milk products. But this inverse stuff is awful. Red and wet. It's also splitting because my skin is very thin. Do you think I should ask to see a dermatologist. x

Yes you should get a referral to a dermatologist. They are better suited to treating you and you have the right in the UK, unfortunately you may have to push it depending on your postcode lottery.

But yes you must get inverse treated properly. No offence to your nursing practitioner, but she is not the right person to be treating you. So go and demand an appointment with a dermatologist, the sooner you get there the sooner you will get proper relief.

Good job.
And keep in mind that steroid creams have the tendency to thin your skin. Always good to know if they want to try more of that.

I'm sure other members from the UK will chime in soon and may have other suggestions, but as a British Expat I like to see my taxes going to good use.

But for now I can suggest the [Group Specific] if you want to get to know some more of our members. *I'm the only sensible one in there though.

Hi Kath and welcome to our club 
Fred is absolutely bang on. Having had psoriasis that long you are entitled to some real relief. Your GP let alone a practice nurse just can't give you the treatment you need. You really need to see a dermatologist. Insist. Jump up and down scream cry whatever is need in your neck of the woods. From the GP my journey took me to a clinic where a GP who had a Dermy specialism gave me all sorts of lotions and potions before they put me up to a proper Dermy so I could go for UVB, they can't proscribe that. Then more creams and PUVA until I gave in and started on systemics. You need to fail on each before you go on to the next phase. It can be bloody frustrating but they have to follow the nice guidelines. The first they will offer is Methotrexate some people get on with it a lot don't.
Please don't be afraid to ask anything we will try to help as best we can. Just bear in mind we aren't medically trained but all have gone through it.
When you go to see anybody I would strongly advise you take somebody close with you, other half friend even parent. It is surprising the difference you see if it shows you aren't the only one that is suffering with this disease
