I had a dermatology appointment yesterday.  I'm seeing this doctor annually now that I've learned how to manage my psoriasis and am doing okay.  I'm just so grateful to her.  She is thorough and smart and committed to relieving suffering.  This person could have risen to the top in any field, but she chose skin and her dedication to years of medical education and the care she has provided to me have helped me (along with many others, of course).  I am better.  I guess I just want to acknowledge this.

But as I get older, I think there's gonna be annual biopsies for skin cancer, too.  I have two sore spots now, covered in bandages from yesterday's punch biopsies.

Maybe in the long run, having psoriasis lowers my chances of dying from skin cancer since it will be checked for regularly.  I might not have ever seen a dermatologist if I didn't get psoriasis.

Yes it's good to have a dermatologist you get on with, I've been with mine about 15 years and she is now the head of department. So I'm not sure how long I will still get to see her, but it's a training hospital so I'm sure if I wasn't happy I could ask to see her.

I too moved to an annual appointment, but I can contact her by email or phone if I need to.

Long may you keep your dermatologist. Thumb

Thanks, Fred.  I hope your dermatologist is a young-ish one so that you won't have her retiring while you're still a patient there.  Head of the department is pretty cool.   Cool

Yes she is young, she also knows about Psoriasis Club but we don't allow doctors names here so I'll keep it to myself. Wink

So do they take biopsies randomly or chose areas they think look suspect? I know people who’ve had them but only because of particular concern an area of skin?

You are probably her only patient who is doing something important to help others who have Psoriasis.   Cool

These were suspicious spots, not related to psoriasis.  When we were young, we didn't have a clue about the dangers of sunbathing, always striving for a deep tan.   Rolleyes

I know, I didn’t take enough care either.. I’m impressed and glad they are keeping an eye on it for you.
