As I am 20 weeks pregnant now I was wondering how being pregnant will affect my psoriasis!

I have an older half sister who has psoriasis, and the only time she has been fully clear of psoriasis was whilst she was pregnant.

In my early stages of pregnancy I was still have UVB therapy (I was told it is one of the very few treatments I could have if wanting to try for a baby, and safe to have while pregnant)

My psoriasis is coming back, worse on my lower arms than before and a lot of my usual areas are also returning including the areas on my face, I must admit I am really struggling with this as I'm meant to have "glow".....it really doesn't feel like it.

I had always hoped that my psoriasis would act the same as my older sisters, even my derm nurse said she often finds people who suffer with server cases often clear.
I have heard one theory on this being that your immune systems naturally lowers.

I'm trying to keep positive and remind myself I still have 20 weeks to go and the summer to look forward to.

Please feel free to add to this thread with your own experiences or things you may know or have read.

I will keep updates on how things progress with my own psoriasis!

Hi Hanna I shall be keeping a look out for your updates, I have read a lot of stuff about psoriasis improving with pregnancy. Studies are one thing, but you can't beat getting information from a person.

Hopefully the sun will come back and your Glow will appear. Cool

Thanks for sharing.

Felt really down this morning, I had to see my GP because of my skin.
Both my lower arms from elbow to wrist on the top is just one massive plague :( I've never had it like this on my arms before its normally my legs (which I'm so thankful are currently just small plagues) I hate this condition because I know I could deal with it if it wasn't for the fact that my arms feel as though they are on fire and times painful to move!
Being pregnant has limited my treatment options and most steroid creams cause me more burning and allergic reactions, so I've been given double base moisturiser and a tar/hydrocortisone cream that's very mild. I've got to go back in 3 weeks and potential sent to see dermatology again :(

It also looks like I'm getting heat rash around the area of psoriasis which is another pain in the bum! Has anyone else ever had this kind of heat rash?

Every time I stop a treatment my skin comes back worse, I keep thinking I should just stop trying treatments and hope my body sorts itself out, anyone else ever just tried giving up on meds and treatments?

Thanks for any advice

Hello Hanna. Sorry to hear that, bloody psoriasis always has a way of making your life miserable.

For the feeling of burning and heat rash, it could be worth trying a bag of frozen peas laid on the area for instant relief. I don't know if you can get them in the UK but I'm sure you would be ok with Dexeryl or Silkis However please ask professional advice first!

Regards.

Fred.

Edit: I did give up any medication for a few years, but had to go back to it after psoriatic arthritis won and I couldn't move. I used to just cope with plenty of moisturiser.

Thought I would give another update now I'm 27 weeks along.

My skin is worse :-( i have developed guttate all over now more and more on my belly which has also now got big patches of plaque I think I'm getting this instead stretch marks. The plaques on my legs are getting bigger and thicker and my lower arms have also gotten worse!! Along with guttate increasing on my face, and getting more on my hands

I do seem to be doing well with my scalp it hasn't been too bad, I am really trying to stay positive and resist going back to the derm, which I know sounds silly but I really want to just see if there is any chance of my body deciding it wants to sort itself out.

One thing I find that helps me to stay positive is looking at my arms first thing in the morning as the skin always looks paler and in low light!!

Everyday I can still function and move is a blessing with the level of psoriasis I know have, I hate the amount I flake off but I've got a Hoover so I'll get over it, my husband has always been so caring and supportive and does all he can for me, so I'm very lucky!

I'm wondering if my skin will clear when I finish work, it can be very stressful and I worry a lot about it and find it hard to switch off from.

Im currently sing epaderm cream (moisturiser) and savalon also have alphosyl HC for when it starts to burn again although I'm trying hard to limit it as it can affect the baby! But. Don't know in what way.

Sorry to go on, it's been building up for a while :-(

So being pregnant and having psoriasis isn't something that has gone well for me!
Being 90% covered has meant I have lost and real confidence in the whole photograph your bump area!!

In fact I hate the idea, but I found a great way to get some nice fun pics and show off my bump
