Giving it to someone I knew was suggested by my pharmacist. It's not part of the controlled substances here. But it would be wise to check the regulations in your area.

Here in the United States it is illegal to give someone (most) prescription drugs. I added the most as since we have 50 states possibly with each having their own laws that govern it I can't say for absolute certain that it applies to every single drug in every single state as most of the concern is for controlled substances. But also with living in the land of litigation, should you give someone a prescription drug and they have a reaction, my guess is that under certain circumstances you could be held responsible if they wanted to sue you.
Since the question came from CA, I wouldn't risk giving it to anyone simply due to the possible side effects and issues it could cause even if it is ok legally to give it away. However, each country has it's own rules so before I'd give it to anyone I would definitely check out the laws and regulations as KatT has said to be on the safe side. Updating this as I was curious so dug a little deeper. I thought "controlled substances" meant drugs such as opiates, stimulants, etc so I looked it up. There is a list of controlled substances put out by the department of justice and those are indeed the addictive type drugs (mostly) But the problem is that a prescribed drug (whether a controlled substance or not) can only be prescribed by certain people (doctor's etc) and the drug is only for the use of the person it is prescribed for. So if I give someone a prescribed medicine (even if not a controlled substance) in the US, it would be illegal because I am not authorized to prescribe medication. So for us Americans it would be unwise to give it to another.

But drugs like painkillers are okay to buy for you yourself ?
As sometimes they also can be prescribed by the doctor if necessary . And drugs like weed and cocaine? Do they also need a prescription?

Some of the major ones (opiods, morphine, etc) are only available with a prescription. Over the counter meds like Tylenol, Motrin, etc do not require a prescription. There are a lot of drugs available that do not require a prescription. Weed depends on the state as far as legality for recreation or medical usage so that varies. If it's for medical usage a prescription is required. Not sure you can get cocaine at all in any legal sense. It is used in hospitals as local anesthesia in some cases but the average person can't legally acquire it. I don't think there is any prescription drugs that even have cocaine in them available but I could be wrong. I'm not really all that knowledgeable about drugs prescription or otherwise. I only know that (right or wrong) there are laws that govern how to dispose of them and and sharing a prescription in the United States is considered a Whether there are exceptions to that, I do not know. |
