Hi all,

Has anyone switched from Stelara to Humira due to Psoriatic Arthritis?

PsA symptoms started a few months back. Had my appointment with the rheumatologist this morning. They suggested methotrexate first, which I shut down immediately as it didn't work for my psoriasis. They then prescribed Humira. Has anyone else made this switch, and how did you find it? Would also appreciate if anyone on Humira could let me know their experience on it.

I went the other way as I had a reaction to Humira and ended up in hospital for 5 days. I'm a bit surprised they are proscribing it for psoriatic arthritis, but we are all different.

If you put Humira in a Search you will find a lot of threads.

But good luck and do keep us updated.

I will never ever use MTX again, it did totally nothin for my Psoriatic Arthritis. So I think in your case I would try Humira, not that I think it will work… as it is a TNF blocker, and I am not sure on them for Psoriatic Arthritis. But it is the upstep to the better biologics.

Thanks Fred! I'm slightly worried about coming off Stelara as it's worked so well for me when Fumaderm and mtx didn't work. I'll definitely update when I make the switch, it'll be a couple of months as I have to wait until I would have been due the next Stelara injection to start Humira.

MTX did nothing for me when I was on it, even at the highest dose so I very firmly shut them down when they suggested it. They said the injection form may work better but I held firm so they didn't push it any further thankfully. That's when they suggested a TNF blocker and prescribed Humira. Fingers crossed it works

Also to add Fred, from my very quick research it's a common prescription here in Ireland for Arthritis, including PsA

TNFs do work PSA, but don’t manage skin disease as well as the IL23s (Stelara). Well best of luck with the new medication.

Humira is often used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis successfully.  Fingers crossed it will help your Psoriatic Arthritis.

Can you manage skin outbreaks with ointments?

I don't think injectable MTX works any differently than oral.  And it still causes awful nausea, either way.

I've been on Humira since 2007 for Crohn's Disease.  It saved my life, I think.  I have arthritis (don't know what kind).  Maybe it would be worse without the Humira.  This last year, I've had to increase my dose to weekly injections rather than every other week.  Maybe should have done that sooner, but 17 years has been a good, long run for Humira for me.
